MC80 Rieekan List critique

By Stasy, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey, I'm just looking for any feedback on my tentative regionals list. I'm not shooting to win, just hoping not to get blown away. My goals were to stand up and love 2ND player (forget giving up 20+ points for a bid) and to squeeze an effective-ish MC80 in a list.

Initially, I ran 2 A's and 2 Y's for squadron cover, but I'm kind of leaning towards taking advantage of Rieekan's ability with named squads. I'm not opposed to changing things up with the squads (IE Meat shields).

I've yet to test this against a super high activation list (I'll run a game or two tonight against a 4 ship Imperial build) but I'm not completely scared of it.

Hey, I'm just looking for any feedback on my tentative regionals list.

I think you mean Tantive IV regionals list...

MC80s like having tantive along for crucial nav and eng tokens.

Also whilst no point overbidding, a 4pt bid or so to give the mc30 a shot and doing last/first shenanigans would be nice. All made possible by dropping ECM! Redundant redirects so just use those shields. (Many disagree with me about mc80s and ecm.)

A lot recommend Admonition over Foresight when Mothma isnt involved. In this case I agree, can really soak up squadrons one token at a time if need be.

Careful playing superior positions with Rieekan. Its dangerous. Also fire lanes over contested outpost, you want the manouverability.

I ran a similar list in a recent tournament that worked really well.

first off, I agree with many comments that Ginko makes. You want a good plan on what commands you'll take early, because navigate and engineering are both critical to the success of your MC80, especially since you have Engine techs. You really want to activate the Engine techs with a token so that you can concentrate fire and add a critical die. This may be a blue to fish for an accuracy or adding a second Black once the Defiance black has entered your pool.

XI7: This is more of a nice to have than a must have, at least in your build. Its might help you outright pop something small, or it might just end up being redundant with your accuracy tokens. Against large targets, he should just end up redirecting all of the damage from your other ships while eating the shot from your big ship. In my own build, I went for enhanced armament to increase the dice reroll potential out of leading shots, but my overall build was designed simply to generate so much damage that it didn't matter if he redirected or braced. Honestly, that's how you look set up here.

Engine Techs: I agree with Ginko that you definitely want a more reliable way to ensure you've got the Nav tokens to use this upgrade. You're stuck in a bind with your dials in that you may need a critical engineering on the odd round, but then you want the Nav dial or token so that you can use Engine Techs. Oh, but then you want concentrate fire to increase your damage pool or to combine with Defiance's title for an extra black die (maybe a blue to fish for an accuracy). I love Engine Techs on an MC 80, but this is possibly droppable. The MC80 isn't fast, so as second player, you ideally want your objectives to allow you to force him to come to you. If you can pull that off, you won't need engine techs.

Foresight: Admonition is probably the first title on a build like this. Your Foresight title is nice on a long range sniper that can still brawl. The Admonition, in contrast, can spend a token, then pitch that same token to cancel a double hit, which he stands to see at close range. Eventually you're too close for the Evades to work, so they go first, then when you've burned all of your shields, the Redirects go. Depending upon what he is throwing at you, you might get 8 damage out of it over the course of the game.

APT: If you drop the XI7, then ACM definitely feels like it fits more with your build. Your Corvettes will do nice chip damage throughout the game and will help you concentrate fire on the same target. If you can drop all four ships against the same ship, you should have enough overall damage to overwhelm the target.

Objectives: Advanced Gunnery can work greatly in your favor, making it highly likely that your opponent selects another objective. You probably have the dice for Firelanes, which is an objective that can force your opponent to come at you, and possibly obviating the need for Engine Techs. Intel Sweep is another good objective, since both of you should pick up two objectives easily, and it forces a confrontation around the objectives at same point. You want objectives that force your opponent to come at it you.

Squadrons: I'd worry in this department. You can hit hard with Han, but you won't tie up an Intel/Bomber ball very easily with only two squadrons and you don't have great AS coming in from your ships.

I ran SW-7 Corvettes myself, which I think work out well with Rieekan because you can ensure you get shots off of them when you need them. The difference in points is what you can add to your squadrons. If you can pick up two A-wings, for example, you can go a long way toward improving your AS game.

I love the advice! I tried the Han and Tyco tonight and it's OK. But I may try to move one of the CR90's down to a B with SW7 and Tantive to buy more squad points. I'm thinking possibly Tyco/Wedge/ something else for squads.

I'm feeling OK with the 80 in the list. Not great, but fun tricks available with Rieekan (worst case).
