Is the lore from older editions still relevant/compatible or....

By Blustar, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

is the game heading in a completely new direction? I mean this is pre-Storm of Chaos so is this still the same world or will the SOC not happen in the new WFRP?

Are most of the 2ed books still compatible?

I mean like in the Tome of Salvation, will the calendar information still be 100% valid? Can I use it to flesh out the lore from the core set which doesn't seem as thorough as Tome of Salvation?

I know the after SOC writing will obviously need to be ignored but how useful will the old books be for fluff? Has the new edition changed the world drastically like 4th D&D did with Forgotten Realms?

thanks

It's exactly the same world, so aside from things that have happened after the current timeline date, it should all be valid - which is why I've stocked up on 2E books.

Yes..and it would be wise to get a copy of Sigmar's Heirs before they're gone.

The Storm of Chaos did make some significant changes, particular in the northern cities that were sacked or ruined. Other than that, it should all be pretty consistent.

What's great about RPGs is that the collective YOU, which is your gaming group, get to decide when and where they want to set their campaign as well as how much lore you do and don't want to accept as fact. ;)

I would recommend Shades of Empire as well. I was kind of 'meh' about this book at first, but there's some really good stuff in it.

Ultimately I what the GM decides but i would throw in that Malal was dropped from 1st edition due to copyright. There may may be other things from 1st ed that are no longer canon so in that regard are no compatible but it is utimately what the GM wants to run. 2nd ed stuff should be ok in general excluding timeline issues

I'm going to wirte an adventure based on Malal creating a war betwen the Fimir and Gnomes. Let's see how the submission guidelines worh with that one angel.gif

That would work, though I don't know if you could have the Zoats give quests if the party didn't include a Wood Elf...

I am a big fan of "gnome" being a derogatory term for a dwarf, though.
