Ryad is amazing ... how can I beat her?

Wampa and Palpy both looooove shooting at Defenders. And I hear that evade tokens hate Jax.

PS 6+ and dice.

Well, she only gets her ability if she moves forward, not turning. So...she does become a bit predictable. People will want to use her ability as much as possible. It's just like when you see people with the X7 title and they always want to go speeds 3-5. So, just expect her to go straight. You won't know the speed and you won't know if she K-turns, but you know which direction she is going. That can help quite a bit. You can set up bumps, bombs, or even just old fashioned "pointing in the right direction to fire at her".

It's not like Juno Eclipse is ruling the skies in the meta and she can shift around quite a bit.

Then again, how much you want to think people will take Juno and Ryad in a list? That would be a lot of fun.

Ryad does have an amazing ability, but my impression of it is it's not something that you as the opponent need to plan around specifically.

It's weird, this is one of the only abilities in the game that I can think of that gives me this feeling.

Her threat level is not greatly elevated by this ability, I think is what I'm getting at. She's a Glaive at -1PS, and you should treat her as such when you're flying against her, being of course aware of the K-Turns but not giving them more thought than they're due.

However if you're the one flying her, she's great. She can K-Turn in situations where other Defenders can't, and that's what's nice about her ability. Her utility goes up without making her a substantially greater threat.

The real question is going to be: which title does the Countess have?

Predator + Ion TIE/D Ryad is going to be vulnerable to being outnumbered and outflanked but she's also going to hit like a truck, regardless of stress, blocking, or token-swiping. You're going to need to pour fire into her early to inflict damage as soon and as frequently as possible.

Juke + x7 on the other hand is going to make Ryad incredibly slippery, plus or minus an Engine Upgrade for angle flexibility. Your best bet is a wide net to catch her in a block or crossfire, depending on your squad. You won't really be able to stop Juke and the x7 title from doing work but you can negate her ability and Boost/BR capacity with a blocking body. After that she becomes a little more predictable.

X7 will make you predictable if you feel you have to go 3-5 speed every turn. Then again, it would be awesome to just go 2 forward instead of that 3-5 speed K-turn that everyone was expecting.

PTL would work well with the /D title, as well. You can modify more dice or even use the first shot to try to strip tokens as you then fire with more modification on the 2nd.

I'd probably go with X7, just for the extra defense. I'd probably throw PTL on her. She can get a Barrel Roll in there for extra positioning and/or a Focus and TL as well as that Evade.

Stress is still not a Defender's friend. Mk.II mod helps with this. The Defender is finally what it always should have been. The same tactics one would use to beat Soontir applies here. In a 1 on 1 (even 1 on 2) dogfight, the Defender will have the advantage most of the time. 1 on 3 or 4 becomes a problem, as ships can block travel lanes and force the action to certain areas.

The other half of the equation is this ship has all the power of a large ship, but on a small base. Would you joust with an Aggressor? Think of Defenders as Interceptor/Aggressor hybrids. One good round against this ship is probably not going to destroy it and it is going to dish out serious damage in return. Best advice....

The rebel version is less hilarious then unhinged thugs, bit they have their place if you kit them with the right extras sparingly.

Of course, but many Defender players will want that free evade token so badly they'll fly at speeds that are much harder to control than a 1 bank. I know I will!
