New Contracted Scout Variations

By AEIllingworth, in X-Wing Squad Lists

There was a huge rush of munitions Jumpmasters in the time since they were released, but it almost seems like the initial 3 symmetrical builds have crested, and now it is time to look for tweaks.

The Hoth Open was won by Ryan Flemming with:

  • 97 points
  • Contracted Scout + Deadeye + Guidance Chips + Plasma Torpedo + OCR4
  • Contracted Scout + Deadeye + Guidance Chips + Plasma Torpedo + OCR4 + EM
  • Contracted Scout + Deadeye + Guidance Chips + Proton Torpedo + R4 + EM + Boba Fett

The interesting bits that I see are that Overclocked R4 is nearly as good as R4 Agromech when you are using plasma torpedoes, extra munitions doesn't need to be included on all of them, and the initiative bid is crucial to the mirror match.

Other interesting options include a "bumpmaster" without munitions, but with Intimidation, intelligence agent, and anti-pursuit lasers/ion projectors/feedback array seasoned to taste. Other options here include adaptability to get down to PS2, but sacrificing intimidation.

I'd like to throw in another option. For the same points as Proton Torpedoes and Extra Munitions, you could have Advanced Proton Torpedoes. With a primary weapon of 2, you don't even need Targeting Chips because you won't be getting the extra crit. Adv. Protons really discourage the range one dive, and you can still fit anti-pursuit lasers if you have the points. Overclocked R4 gets you the second focus that you need to make the torpedoes effective and modified.

I think running an Adv. Proton Torpedo Jumpmaster in front and two regular torpedo boats will help scare people heading for the range one, and if your other tow boats are back enough you can blast anyone that bumps.

Any other interesting options out there?

Two Contracted Scouts with typical loadout. Opted out of the third Scout to add Feedback Array to help deal with agile ships. Added in 2 Z-95 with Feedback Arrays. Kept them at PS3 to help against matches against other U-Boat builds. Think it'll do well against arc dodgers and other builds. However, it might have a more difficult time against 3 Scouts. Maybe a Y-Wing with Torps would do better than the 2 Z-95 to deal with the typical 3 alpha strikers.

An important point to consider is that Overclocked R4 is statistically about as good as R4 Agromech when you are using plasma torpedoes. The Agromech is better on Protons because of the innate eyeball modification. This could give you two extra points for initiative or your third ship.

That's a potential option. I would prefer R4 because it gives a Target Lock and doesn't stress.
