Bredan makes top 8 with 4 Rookies and a Bandit out of 100+ players in Chicago Regionals

By Tvboy, in X-Wing

I wonder how insufferable the 'T-65 is fine because my Canadian Girlfriend who works at Nintendo once came 8th in a tournament with it' crowd are going to be when Rebel Veterans is announced.

What makes you think the T-65 will be in Rebel Veterans instead of the E-Wing and Y-Wing? Between the E & Y-Wing, they have 4 aces total. The T-65 has 8 aces which is 4 more aces then any other rebel ship currently.

Just by simply creating new astromechs in a Rebel Veterans pack would further make X-wings more viable.

Not to be a jerk but the situation sounds extremely unsporting. I'd be very unimpressed if I were an attendee at this tourney. Two friends just conspired to use the rules to secure themselves a spot that one of them clearly didn't deserve. They even played the game to prove it. The Imp player should have played the match and taken his win.

I was there and frankly no one cared. The entire controversy regarding ID's is a bunch of whiny nonsense. You want to guarantee that it doesn't screw you over? Try winning more games...

Oh look, it's the "durr hurr win moar" argument.

Yes. Yes. It is, foul Internet denizen. See I went to the event, how many regionals have you gone to? How many are you planning to attend? Did you go to adepticon? How about plain old store championships? Do you ever place high enough that this could ever affect anything other than your sense of honor? If so, then don't do it. But I'm guessing probably not.

As for the top 8 finish, he did an amazing job. And I think maybe if everyone's cool with it we can go back to talking about that.

Oh look, is it time to measure our e-penises? How about you take that sh*tty elitest attitude of yours crawl back under the rock you came from.

You're one of those WAAC people who suck all the fun out of the game. Let me guess, you're the type of guy who will stomp a mudhole in a player who's playing for the first game and then tell him to "get gud" while gloating.

I know your type, seen it in warhammer for over 20 years, see it in X-Wing now as well unfortunately.

And for the record, 6 SCs and 1 regional last year, 4 SCs and 1 regional this year. And I've been to adepticon...just not for X-Wing. Planning to make it to at least one of the other Regionals in the Southeast despite it being an 8 hour drive making it a 3 day commitment for me.

I am Josh Breden and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this post. It brings me great joy to hear my list has created such conversation. To clear things up I did only make the top 16 but I believe I could have pulled another win I just made a flight error early in my first round of 16 that I never really recovered from. I went 4-1-1 in Swiss with no modified wins. My one loss was to my friend I traveled to Chicago with. He has never defeated my list in the games we played at home. He made a few good maneuvers that I was not expecting and beat me 100 to 14.... My friend and I started playing X-Wing this January so by the end of the day my adrenalin was pumping.

After having played five of the most intense games of X-Wing of my life I was offered an ID by my opponent. At this point I was making mistakes already and knowing the odds of me getting top 16 with the draw I spent time thinking it through and just as the round started I shook on it. There were several people behind me in ranking at the time that could have won games and passed me and landed me at 17 or lower. However I took the risk and thankfully it payed off.

The following day I faced Zachery and the first 30 minutes of the game no hits were landed with only one shot being taken. His list managed to get one of my ships and then he picked me off slowly. He beat me with a full health list (thanks Poe) I started to make mistakes and they all compounded and the pressure of wanting to do better to prove myself didn't help.

I love how many people at the tournament and on this forum have enjoyed seeing the XXXXZ list make it to the top 16 and it encourages me to think so many people think it took great flying to get me were I was.

As a lover of all things X, congrats on a well played list. If you don't mind sharing, what did you have the most trouble with? How much use did the Z see (if say someone wanted to throw in some ord)?

I would say that aces that can arch dodge are a pain for this list. I have flown this for some time and have figured out how to create kill boxes to some degree. The lists I currently fear the most however is the crack swarm. I haven't flown against many swarms, oddly enough. I lucked out with that at regionals. I just finished a game last night with a friend that ran a crack against me and I lost however it was a close game. So, given time I think I can feel at least somewhat confident facing swarms. my other concern is deci/phantom builds mostly because I don't have enough experience against the phantom.

As for your other question: This list started over a month ago with four T-70's. Mostly because we had four and X-wings are just cool to see together. As I played it I realized I could switch to T-65's and add a z-95. I did lose the talon roll, an extra shield, and the boost however, those 4 shields were made up with the 2-2 z95. This also added 2-3 extra attack, a potential blocker, and just one more ship to have to deal with. Against, at the time of creation, a 15k heavy meta Having more things the rockets had to hit meant more things survive. This also meant each of my ships were only 22 points and the 12 for the z95. I don't think the ordinance would help much because you should put guidance chips with it, however you need the integrated astromech to cancel that crit you don't want.

Was I being offensive?

I didn't think so but I could try harder if it pleases!

The guy even came on here and said it himself. He figured his chances were better with the ID, so he took it and his gamble paid off. All I want to know if why that option exists in the first place.

Also, where do they come from? Is it something in the water? I said it seemed a little like collusion and it is. Sanctioned collusion, but at the end of the day... that's just my opinion. Why do they have to come out from under the film layer bearing arms for everything? Gay rights, abortion. Sure, those are topics to get mad about. Some guy on the interwebs says something cross about toy space-pews and it's like we're faking another goddamn moon landing or something!

YEESH!

Congrats to Josh Breden anyways. You flew well and taking an ID doesn't reflect on your ability or character. I meant not to question your integrity with my posts, merely point out what I consider evidence of a poorly thought out rule. It's not about player skill or list-building, it's merely the idea that a player can manipulate their ranking through savvy use of the Draw system. To my mind an ID should only exist for the purpose of quitting a match fairly when one player must leave due to unforseen circumstances, like a family emergency. There should never be a situation in a competitive gaming event where two players can better their scores by not playing. That is all the point I am trying to make and I think it's a pretty valid one.

The intentional draw exists because draws exists in the game. And rather than having the TO try to figure out if each and every draw is intentional. they give a system to allowing it. There will usually be one game at the end, where the outcome doesn't matter, because each of them will be making the cut no matter what. Which is where most of the IDs will come from.

Now, the backlash you got is due to the rampant outrage at a Regional a few weeks ago. That got very personal, very fast. And many don't like the personal attacks that had happened.

1st off, congrats to the player for making the top 8 with his list. It's rare to see 4 X make it anywhere.

2nd, yes the T-65 still needs a little help, his list didn't allow IA to be used at all, as there were no astromechs to soak damage for. We recently got the Raider with the TIE advanced fix, the Gozanti cruiser with more TIE fighter options, now it's time to flip over to the Rebel side of the list and give the T-65 the little TLC it needs. (Y-wings could use some more pilots, but scum and villany gave them allot of options).

Pretty sure his X-Wings were 22 points because they had a 1-point Astromech attached to a 21-point ship...

My list was 4 x wing rookie pilots (21pts) integrated astromech(0pts) R2 astromech (1pts all 1-2 speed maneuvers Are green) and one Z95 dandit squadron pilot (12pts)

Thanks for filling us in, I got a hard core X-wing lover in my neck of the woods who would love to fly something like this.
