Bredan makes top 8 with 4 Rookies and a Bandit out of 100+ players in Chicago Regionals

By Tvboy, in X-Wing

Great job everyone, the T-65 has been fixed, you can stop making threads about how to fix it now. It's now official, if you can't win games with the T-65, it's your fault, not the ship's.

Edit: Sorry, typo in the title, Breden.

One list, at one event, once.

Yep, case closed!

Actually, while OP made an overstatement of course, my buddy with the same list also managed top8 (20+ event, but anyway)...

The list has legs to stand on, but what prevents it from being hyper-competetive is that it doesn't have 'unfair' elements.

Our club tourney was won by a guy who usually flies three t-65s and three bandit. I regularly won games last year with the opportunist rogue squadron build last year.

In the hands of a good player a well flown t-65 is a thing of beauty.

Haven't heard about that list in some time. Glad it's back.

I'm seriously wondering how he did it vs the crack swarms and scouts, the ps3 and ps4 boogeymen.

A ship that can put multiple players in multiple Regionals top 8s with multiple builds does not need a fix.

You also boast a while lotta guns, and a dial fast enough to keep pressure on a jumpmaster.

It's going to take Mighty Good Flying, but I'd they're experienced with, eg, BBBBZ or wave 1 flying... Yeah, I can see it.

Perhaps T 65 is OP and we must nerf it.

Hey look, there's THAT logical fallacy again. You know, the old "D6 occasionally rolls higher than D100" argument, which ignores what everyone is actually talking about in favour of a witty (to the author, at least) soundbyte.

Good job, Hexbot. Good job.

Must be a good player. Imagine if he had played imperial aces. Probably would have won the tournament ;)

How many tournament results do we need to have before it becomes a statistically significant number?

I'm not really sure myself, but I'm confident we're no-where near that number.

So maybe your attitude isn't entirely warranted.

More than one or two, right now this is nothing but a blip and proves little.

Way to get a simple random sample bud.

But that is pretty cool.

I know of a guy that heard of a gal that was married to a guy that knew a store owner that knew of a guy that won a game with a spice runner swarm.. just saying...lol

What I find more interesting is this:

Winner was a TIE swarm.

Second place was three Rebel Aces, one of which was a heavily loaded HWK with Autoblaster Turret. (It was Poe, Jake and Kyle)

Semifinalists?

  • Phantom + Decimator, something thought to be dead due to TLT and U-Boat. One that doesn't use Palpatine or Isard as well. (Darth Vader, Rebel Captive and Gunner on RAC).
  • A second Crackswarm, this time with a mix of /ln and /fo.
  • Ghost /w Phantom backed up a HWK (again Kyle Katarn).
  • One unreported.

And Quarter Finalists?

  • A wildly different Rebel trio: Wes Janson, Airen Cracken and Miranda Doni. Only one of them is a metagame favoured pilot.
  • Palpatine Aces.
  • Three Imperial Ace build (no Palp). (Whisper, Omega Leader and Inquisitor).
  • XXXXZ. That's right, four Rookie X-wings.

Only one archetype appears twice: the Crackswarm.

All the meta lists (U-boats, more Palp Aces) are milling around in the lower half of the Top 16.

This regional is an excellent testament to the philosophy of better to know your squad inside out and how to fly it than to rely on a "power list" doing your work for you.

Do you think that's due to the high cost involved in buying into three U-boat list? Or do you think it's honestly a list that people are shying away from due to the stigma behind it and the inherent drive of some gamers to be different then the herd mentality?

Or it's not as powerful as it was bigged up to be. Crackswarms aren't cheap either. Palp Aces sure isn't given it needs the Raider.

Good job, Hexbot. Good job.

The idea that ONE person's results mean anything is more than a little ridiculous.

Or the third option, people enjoy different things.

...to be different then the herd mentality?

Is that necessarily a bad thing? If a number of players keep bringing differing and interesting lists that still do well, hopefully that will help diversify the meta - which can only be good for the game.

Its a list that, similar to quad TLT, has too hard counters (high mobility aces + action denial, hello Carnor) to be dominant. The top players gravitate towards that counter right now.
