Casual X-wing Podcast: Shuttle Tydirium - Coming Soon!

By heychadwick, in X-Wing

Hi Guys,

Babaganoosh, myself, and a few others have banded together to start a new podcast about Casual X-wing. We aren't going to report on a bunch of tournament games that you weren't there for. We want to talk about the 101 other ways to play the game, and to have a laugh while doing it.

First episode is being edited by the edit-bot 2000. Next one gets recorded on Thursday. Soon it will be posted and I'll give the RSS feed.

Here's our commercial to talk about what we are about:

I'm looking forward to it!

Nice. I am trying to start a podcast myself.

Making me jealous of people who get to play the game more casually with a fun local group! By the way, if you find any single-player hacks or missions I'd love to know.

Good luck, fellow podcaster.

I'll be listening for sure.

X-Wing podcast for the common man....sign me up!

The "commercial" came across a little more anti-tournament than pro-casual if you get my drift. Sets the tone as bashing the tournament aspect rather than celebrating the casual aspect, which is something to avoid in my opinion.

Anything that sounds bashy is intended to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek. The real message is that there is another way you can play x-wing other than the traditional tournament style, and that is what we advocate for on the podcast. Speaking for myself, I have a lot of respect for top-level play; but there is another way to have fun playing this game.

Tournament play has a lot goin for it; it's an intense, fun game with an elegant rule set and a great IP backing it up. But it can also be stressful and (recently) contentious, and limits creativity in tactics and list building. I think in episode 1 we point out some of the issues we have with tournament play and some of the ways casual play can tap into some of the aspects of X wing that we all love.

Yeah, it wasn't intended to be. Babaganoosh just grabbed a section where we were just jabbering away on things. Give it a shot when it comes out and let us know if it sounds anti-tournament.
