Challenge Coin Question

By Fuzzywookie, in X-Wing

A friend of mine has a coin. Brings coin to tournament. He has a bye for first game. Second game he places his coin, opponent has no coin. Does opponent have to play? Does my friend automatically win?

Errm.. What?

Challenge coins do not equal regional byes. They are shinies to reward high placements in events.

So no, he has to play.

What is this nonsense you speak of?

Why would he get an automatic win?

Cheers

Baaa

I'm trying to figure out the purpose of challenge coins. Is it like an ante?

Its a prize. It serves no purpose.

No, it's just a shiny coin.

You can flip it to determine initiative I guess, but that is about their only practical use

Ok. Thank you for the answers. Could be a cool shield token ???

Use it in the lcg for balance of the force token.

Been done. Can see pictures from the Hoth open.

Military challenge coins can be used for "coin checks" within a unit with anyone without their coin buying the next round (although this practice varies widely). X-wing coins don't really have the ubiquity and varied ranks to be used like they are in the military, but perhaps one day an informal system might emerge.

They make really great pog slammers.

I think they're mostly for throwing at people. Or filling socks with before hitting people. You could maybe slip one into a glove too.

Mainly though, if someone does't fly casual, the alpha player and members of his coalition will encircle that player, bellow in an assertion of dominance, and then fling their coins at the offender until he is either dead or cowed into submission, accepting a subordinate place in the hierarchy.

If you move to a new town, you could also use your coins as part of a threat display in a bid for dominance, kind of like a stag's horns, to secure your place within or potentially take over a player group. Since women tend to be rather rare in the community, however, they probably won't be too useful for a mating display.

No games played, just use drop coin and carry on

Okay, what's a "pog slammer".

Sometimes I feel like I stumbled into a foreign language chat room. :-(

This so reminds me of Zoidberg's "erotic display".

Playing pogs was like elementary school gambling. We played for pinks. If you didn't have a hologram slammer with its own carry tube you were such a chump.

Pogs seemed to have been a thing for all of six weeks.

I like them for determining initiative.

Okay, I'm not sure I understand completely but we'll just let it go. It must be a "youngster" thing.

They are really used for determining initive, but I do remember seeing a picture of a guy who was flying a swarm list, and used his coins for shields. He must have had over 10 of them! I hope he was a TO, cause if not, I would have been very intimidated!:o

Is the OP serious? I'm so confused. I thought challenge coins got me free bacon.

Gnaw on it for a while and you can convert it to BitCoin
