Question on Bossk and Tractor Beam

By Highlordgalen, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello, I couldn't find an answer in the recent FAQ, but thought it should be covered somewhere.

If the Bossk ship card has tractor beam and successfully hits its target, would Bossk's pilot ability used to cancel a crit result to add two hit results also be cancelled with the tractor beam text? To clarify, would Bossk's pilot ability hit results still be dice results, implied by the source {crit} result?

The confusion arose from reading accuracy corrector as it specifically says "to your roll", while not having that clarification on Bossk, and the specific reference to "all dice results" on tractor beam, assuming Bossk's modification, outside of the modifying dice phase no longer counts as a die result. For instance, you could have more hit results than you rolled dice. Thank you for your help.

"When you perform an attack that hits, before dealing damage, you may cancel 1 of your {crit} results to add 2 {hit} results."-Bossk

"Attack:Attack 1 ship. If this attack hits, the defender receives 1 tractor beam token. Then cancel all dice results."-Tractor Beam

"When attacking, you may cancel all of your dice results. Then, you may add 2 {hit} results to your roll. Your dice cannot be modified again during this attack."-Accuracy Corrector

Tractor beam would still cancel all the dice results even if you modified them with Bossk's ability. Accuracy corrector differs in that you cancel everything for those two hit results but they can still be avoided or in the case of tractor beam canceled. As far a modifcation of dice goes you have the following

  • Add: To add a die result, place an unused die displaying the result next to the rolled dice. A die added in this way is treated as a normal die for all purposes and can be modified and canceled.
  • Change: To change a die result, rotate the die so that its faceup side displays the new result.
  • Reroll: To reroll a die result, pick up the die and roll it again.
  • Dice can be modified by multiple effects, but a die cannot be rerolled more than once.

But canceling does not count as modification.

You have two effects that trigger at the same time, you choose the order to resolve them. No matter which order you choose you'll end up with the same result.

You roll "hit, hit, crit". The defender is able to cancel the two hits leaving a crit. This is a hit so you get to choose to resolve either Bossk's ability or Tractor Beam first.

If you choose to resolve Tractor Beam first, it cancels all results leaving no crit to trigger Bossk's ability with.

If you choose to resolve Bossk first, he replaces the crit with a pair of hits that are then canceled when you resolve the Tractor Beam effect.

Thank you, it is what I imagined the answer should be. Have fun.
