Tie Bomber, Defender and Omega Leader list - Looking for advice

By Goseki1, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What with Imperial Veterans being around the corner I'd really like to build a list that includes a defender and a bomber, rounded out with something else (I've gone for the horrible little Bastard Omega Leader but would welcome alternatives).

The bomber and Omega Leader in particular will ensure target locks for Vessery, with them all being PS8 it should help with movement and importantly with the Tractor Beam, ensures that Omega and the bomber are shooting at a reduced agility target. Though I'm open to changing to an ion cannon if there are good arguments for that over the Tractor.

Where I think I'd welcome the most advice is for what ordnance to take on the bomber. I've gone with Cluster as you can with Tomax's ability (as I understand it) use crack shot for the first round of clusters, flip it back up and use it for the second round of clusters if you want to, but you wouldn't be able to flip it back up for the rest of the game.

There may be better ordnance options which I'd be happy to take advice on!

Omega leader fills out the other points nicely, he hits quite hard, is hard to hit and is good at keeping a target lock for Vessery. Cheers!

Get rid of the Stealth Device, upgrade the Cluster Missiles to Homing missiles and leave an initiative bid. Homing MIssiles work better with Crackshot, keep their modification (which is huge) and denie Evade tokens which is very important against x7 Defenders, Omega Leaders, Corran Horns and Soontir Fels.

I got a feeling Vessery and/or Tie/D will very soon need a nerf. That seems so OP :S

Its a 6 health ship that has no defensive tech and costs 40 points. Yes, he is ridiculous when he attacks, but in no way unbeatable.

6 health behind 3 def, seems like quite good for me, especially for Vessery, who does not need an action to have a ridiculously powerful offense.

Funny how imperial players found Corran's ability too powerful, and now having no problem with a defender double tapping every f.. turn.

Green dice are worthless. Unless you have actions they will not do anything when you need them to.

When Vessery starts regenerating, then you have my permission to call him OP.

Thanks, sounds like solid advice. I guess homing missiles are also quite good as you don't have to spend your target lock to fire them so can use to reroll the attack?

Exactly, thats what makes them the best option for ordnance carriers that aren't Contracted Scouts in my opinion. Build in mini-Zuckuss is a nice bonus as well.

So I've amended my list slightly following the very helpful discussion here and with other players to the below:

Which only comes to 95 points. I've found recently that I don't really care much for Stealth Devices, particularly when I don't have Palpatine. So what are people's thoughts on spending the last 5 points on?

I could stick a nasty Proton Rocket on Vessery and keep an initiative bid, or a Homing missile for long distance damage. Or improve Vesserys survivability a bit (as he's quite likely be targeted first) with a shield upgrade/Hull upgrade + initiative. Or....engine upgrade?

Edit: I suppose I could also change Omega Leader to the Inquisitor

Vessery doesn't really want missiles if he's going with the TIE/D title, since he wants to be doing primary and cannon attacks. You could always upgrade Tractor Beam to Ion Cannon. I'd also add TIE Mk. II to Vessery since you have the extra points - it's extremely helpful on defenders. Or you could go with the hull upgrade instead. You definitely want to keep an initiative bid of some kind though, as PS 8 is big in the meta right now.

Fair point about missiles with Tie/D. Ill have an experiment with TB before deciding to change out to Ion but that's certainly one avenue to investigate, as is the MK2. I think in the meantime I will just go with a hull/shield upgrade. Cheers :)

How about this one?

Tomax Bren (24)
Cool Hand (1)
Fleet Officer (3)
TIE Shuttle (0)

Gamma Squadron Veteran (19)
Deadeye (1)
Extra Munitions (2)
Homing Missiles (5)
Guidance Chips (0)

Rexler Brath (37)
Predator (3)
Ion Cannon (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/D (0)

Total: 99

Due to Bren, Gamma Squadron Veteran and Brath have two actions per turn, at the same time, Bren itself have focus or evade each time, he uses Fleet Officer. With good flying, there are a lot of damage from Defender and Homing Missiles, there is 1 point initiative bid, but there is not so much defense.

Vessery is incredible and when Tomax shoots he hits **** hard, but Christ he's squishy. I think I was probably too aggressive with the bomber so need to improve my tactics but i didn't get more than a missile off each time I played him.

I should probably try and flank with him but to be honest both if my opponents (understandably) went for Tomax first. I might have to look into different Estate, as much I like Crackshot it's almost overkill on a TLed, guidance chipped honing missile.

I'll keep practicing but also really want to try a double defender + OL list.

I really like Adrenaline Rush on Bren, especially when he is packing missiles. 2 guaranteed K-turns that are white might allow you to catch your opponent unaware. With chips and Concussion missiles, you're gonna score a hit, likely two. And to be able to have your opponent dead to rights in your sights is priceless. Throw a bomb on him (Proton, Ion, Seismic or Thermal Detonators), and watch your opponent gape. Reveal Dial (5k), drop Seismic, move 5, and K-turn to face your opponent and deal him a 1 - 2 punch with a bomb and missile to the face.

Personally, I think too many people give WAY too much credit to Crackshot. I love it in swarms, but as a one off (or two off in this case), I just find its utility somewhat lacking..

Lightning Reflexes would also be an interesting EPT for Bren

Yeah definetly agree with you that there's a good argument for investigating other EPTs. Adrenaline rush sounds like it might be perfect for me. Lightning reflexes is also definitely a good option! Cheers
