I think Edmure was shown to make bad decisions early on when he lost Robs element of surprise

Its a good theory though but i can't see how having the Freys turn against the lannisters would be in any way helpful to Jamie unless they can organise a 'red wedding' style pre emptive strike to take them out in one go.

I personally think we were just being shown that Edmure is more interested in his self than his house

The way I see it, Jamie made it abundantly clear that he didn't have time for the siege, that all he wanted was to get it over and done with so he could get back to Kings Landing and Cersei ASAP.

At the same time, he looked pretty disgusted when he returned back to Kings Landing with Brienne to find out what the Freys had done at the Red Wedding. I doubt he trusts the Freys any further than he could backhand them. Especially since they were the ones who let Robb's army past way back in season one, allowing him to be captured and behanded in the first place.

Edmure was standing up to Jamie and showing more steel than he'd ever done, so something must have prompted him to give Riverrun to the Lannisters. And as we know, a Lannister always pays his debts...

Anyway, something's clearly going down at the Twins in the last episode, and someone's not going to come out of it well.

I'd be happier with Arya dealing with Walder when he's on the can.

I kind of doubt Jaime would let himself fall into the same trap as the Starks. Also, I don't really see why Frey would try and kill Jaime off. If anything they need the Lannister support now that the North is Stark controlled.

Maybe a northern house is attending and murders them all.(The Lannisters are in armor, so this wouldn't really be Red Wedding 2.0)

I don't think Jamie made deals against the Freys. Jamie just talked to Edmure about being able to end the war, let him, live, and get back to his family. The Frey's had a nose around his neck and he had a long look at death. It's not too much to think that he just decided that the war was over and it wouldn't do much to continue the fighting. He also gets to live.

I'm sure Jamie dislikes the Freys, but he's not going to work against them. Walter Frey is the Warden of the Riverlands and supports Tommen on the throne. Just like Bolton is the Warden of the North. As long as they are supporting Tommen, it's fine. The Freys just got a major bump in with Tommen and the Lannisters. They aren't going to do anything stupid.

If anything the Freys will probably just 'delay' helping in battle if the south clash with the north. They have done it before.

If they think the North is winning they might stall and change sides... i can possibly see them doing this but the North showing them no mercy because of the red wedding.

I don't think there will be a North vs South conflict. I think King's Landing will be in too much chaos with the whole High Sparrow, Ser Loras, and Cercei. That stuff will happen and then Danny will land in Dorne. There will be too much going on for King's Landing to really deal with it. Who knows the state of King's Landing after the next episode? Start of next season will be King's Landing clearing chaos as Danny lands in Dorne. The North will be trying to defend vs. the Others.

If KL all burns to the ground where will Jaime take his Lannister army? I would just go home if I were him.

I think in general amour in westeros looks and is lighter than its medieval counterparts.

You do have heavily armoured units but if you look at 'Stark' armour its metal scale or small plates rivetted between two layers of leather. Jamies leather armour might be similarly re-enforced.

He may also have decided that as hes no longer such a good swordsman being fast and not being hit at all is preferable to being able to take a blow and counter attack.

He's also gone as an envoy and general rather than a fighting leader really so its probably why he's wearing more decorative but lighter protection.

Having worn proper medieval armour (only rivetted mail , chainmail to most people but that just mean 'chain chain', not plate) i can tell you that just walking around in a long sleeve thigh length mail shirt for a weekend in wet/cold weather drains you. Its like 15kg of metal and it pulls on your shoulders even if you do belt it tight on the waist to take up some of the weight. It certainly slows you down.

I mean Ramsay went into the battle with little armour on, true he didnt expect to be in a melee but he could still have caught a stray long range arrow, at least Jon wore some armour!

This was my mail shirt. I usually wore a leather jerkin under it as well as its made of hundreds of rings, each sealed with a rivet, you have to keep it oiled so it doesnt rust so if you wear it on bare skin it 'nips' you and covers you in grease.

Like i say its about 15kg too, doesnt sound like much but it is when you're wearing it *all day* for days on end.

Thanks! I focused on the American Civil War in university and was always the token yankee in the group (being in the south). So, I got a special joy in saying that.

That's because he's got a good Dexterity bonus, which he loses if he wears armor that's too heavy. When you have +3 Dex bonus, you want something light (another DnD reference...sorry again!).

I actually used to count as 'heavy armour' in my old system when i wore it for larp as like i said it normally has a leather jerkin underneath, vambraces on my arms (they stop your sleeves swinging about and catching the cross guard of your sword) and a helmet.

Add a big bugger off wool cloak and its miserable stuff to trudge around muddy fields in the pouring rain in.

But the whole dex bonus/armour thing is true. even the fact you've got mail sleeves makes it harder to swing a sword when its a larp rubber one and pull a swing back as it puts momentum in your arm. Youdo it with a real sword and its worse.

Likewise ducking and dodging is not easy in a mail shirt compared to if i just wear the leather armour.

There's something to be said for going into battle naked. No chance of clothing fibers getting pressed in the wound, causing infection. Wich is especially bad with chainmail. A good whack and you end up with several small broken links imbedded in the wound. Hope you had your tetanus shot and- oh wait- medival times, Nope, you're dead.

And mail armor isn't very good against bludgeoning attacks. Not that plate mail protected the part that matters One morningstar into the balls and it's lights out!

Depends on the technological level of your opponent though doesn't it.

Mail is great against slashing weapons, ok against thrusts (still going to hurt) and useless as you say against bludgeoning.

Like in GoT when barriston selmy fights the pit fighters they are screwed because they have never fought a knight in plate and dont have weapons to deal with it.
