Whatever happened to the Horn of Winter?
Mance was looking for that to bring the Wall down and claimed to have found it in the books. Sam found it (or at least A horn) in the series.

This is where we disagree. I totally think that the fight will happen at the Wall. I think Danny will show up with her Dragons and there is a big fight for the various forts and such at the Wall. I think the magic of the Wall will stop the Others from being able to cross over. I think it will be a terrible fight even with Danny, the dragons, and all her forces helping out on the Wall. If the Wall fell, then I don't see them winning at all. I could be totally wrong, of course.
I do think that they skim over the various forts on the Wall due to it being simplified for TV. Might talk about them during the big fights, though.
Are you assuming Benjen is a bad guy here?

Sam still has that horn in Oldtown in the books. He mentions that he has to sell everything to get there, but is left with basically just his clothes and that horn.Whatever happened to the Horn of Winter?

Oldtown, where in the books they are experimenting with the resurgence of magic...
Probably a Chekhov's Gun
Edited by DagonetSeason 7: the fight for lower Westeros.
Season 8: The long night, battle against the Night King.
Shame they ended up butchering the books, but what can you do.
.
Historians will probably call Season 7: "The re-unification of Westeros".
I think it will end with Jon Snow and everyone allied together to fight the Night King.
I just want him to actually release the next book!!!!!
But but but. Benjen said NK would enter the 7 kingdoms and bran would be waiting for him. This is where we disagree. I totally think that the fight will happen at the Wall. ... I could be totally wrong, of course.

Errr....I'll have to re-listen to what Benjen said. I don't think he's evil. I will say that he's a bit of a minor character and doesn't know everything. I think Benjen is just being pessimistic about things. Then again....I could totally be wrong. The Dothraki would be much more useful if the Wall did fall and they were allowed to strike at the zombie hordes. Maybe I just like the idea of it being at the Wall? I guess we will have to wait and see!
Benjen(bad guy) sends bran into the wall so his mark can negate magic. Edd tells Jon wights are now actually at the wall. Jon mans all castles. Eventually they fall back to their castles like winterfell or Dany arrives to help save the wall.
I like that. We still get sweet wall action, but Dany still gets to contribute.
Why do you think Benjen is bad?
How many Dragons will be alive at the end of the show?
At least ONE has got to die in the fight against the undead. I think it'd be really cool if one retreats into secrecy, leaving some mystery to an eventual future spinoff series someday.

More seriously he is sending a child with a ward-destroying handprint through the only barrier between westeros and the nights King.

Incidentally, Sam might also be returning the magically-resurrected Jon Snow(Jahaery Targaryen?) to the state of deadness.
Painful end. Seems like something grrm would do.
The Night King and the Others were coming even before the Dragons returned to the world. The dragons aren't tied to the survival or strength of the Night King. The dragons are the counter to him and the Others.

Maybe. Maybe this is just the first time someone tried toasting a dragon egg since it all started up again.
The Dragons are tied to the Red Star.
The connection is much stronger in the books, where it is made rather explicit that magic is returning (which is also a counter to Tolkien where the magic was leaving).
I'm not sure I buy Benjen being a bad guy. If he was working for the Night King, why wouldn't he just bring Bran to him?

I don't really think he is a bad guy, but I think it's possible.
And not really a bad guy. Just meat for the machine.

Not just toasting the dragon egg. It has to be done with sacrificial king's blood....or Khal's blood. That's what got them to hatch. It was on Khal Drago's funeral byre.
Btw, the music this episode was absolutely stellar.
Cool R + L = J compilation: every scene where Rhaegar or Lyanna are discussed. Man the finale music is so good.
Available on Spotify, Ramin Djawadi.
I think Light of the Seven is my favourite piece of TV music of the past few years and it's close to S.T.A.Y. from Interstellar which is one of my all time favourite soundtrack pieces.
So after re-watching the finale, in the ending shot you see Dornish and Highgarden sails in Dany's Armada. They aren't very apparent, but a few are scattered in there with the Targaryen and Greyjoy sails. So she has already landed on Westeros, or at the very least has met the fleet from Dorne or Highgarden. So she is a lot closer to Westeros than I originally thought. It also explains why the hell Vary's was already there. He didn't travel all the way back east.
Now the question is where is the fleet headed first? To Kings Landing? Or to Pike? Those are the two obvious places for the fleet to attack. To me attacking Pike makes the most sense. They can go ahead and destroy Euron's fleet and not have to worry about him coming around and trying to attack. Then they can easily hit Casterly Rock and possibly force the Lannister forces out of Riverrun and Kings Landing. Then march on to Kings Landing.
Edited by Jo JoI'm curious if Euron has the dragon horn. I think it'd be more interesting in the battle if the dragons become useless or whatever it is the horn does.

I think that they came to her in Mereen to help transport the army. That's why Varys was there.

Well....in the books they have the Dornish prince that heads over and dies. There are still his companions that could raise the Dornish standard. As for Highgarden.....there is no connection there at all. I could say that it's part of the various mercenary companies that have connections. The Second Sons are literally started by the second sons of noble houses who don't have an inheritance...so go become mercenaries. I know they stay in Mareen in the tv show, but there could be some connection like that.

Pike is waaaaaay on the other coast of Westeros. They would have to sail to Dorne, south of Dorne, past Oldtown, past Highgarden, past Casterly Rock, and then to Pike. That's a bit far.
I think the main question is how soon do they want to land? With the Dothraki, I can see that they want to land in Dorne as soon as possible. There would be some harsh marching to get to the Stormlands, but might not be so bad with Dorne helping them. Or...they could just sail for another week or so and make it to the Stormlands. If they want to sail north of there, they can go back and retake Dragonstone, which is her family's ancestral home. It's not far to then go to King's Landing. The storms could be bad and want Danny to land sooner than King's Landing, though.

I was curious if they would pull that off, but I don't think at all. They haven't talked about anything cool or mystic that he did. They didn't use the horn at the kingsmoot. I'm thinking they are just going to simplify the whole storyline there and not include it.
EDIT: Oh, and will they pull out the other Targaryen kid? The young lad who was actually in the show? Maybe. Or do they just kind of forget about it?
