Soooo John Snow is dead? ;)

Yes. John Snow is dead.

John Stark, however...

(Or John Baratheon, John Targaryen, however you want to roll with it...)

Making a thread for anyone else like me who wants to stay free from spoilers in the HBO show starting with this new season, but still be able to discuss the phenomenon that is A Song of Ice and Fire.

Good episode. needed to be longer

One large spoiler there for book readers.

I get the impression, when it comes to that specific thing, the show is diverging wildly from the books.

Oh, I was too wiped last night to watch it. Don't tell me!

It's the kind of thing you really have to see. Words don't do it justice.

Saw that coming, it is hinted at in the books.

TBH was a good episode but

SPOILERS KIND OF!

the absolute character assassination that happened in Dorne was just ridiculous. Areo Hotah, a BAMF , taken out like some chump? Doran a massive manipulator, on par with Varys and who in the books out-wits the sand snakes/Arianne constantly, out-witted like that.... Just awful. Hopefully the Sand Snakes are killed off soon.

Decent episode. They basically had to hit every major storyline and did so pretty much. Good thing they have killed a lot of people, easier to get more story lines in now.

Brienne now hooked up with Theon and Sansa (wonder where they will go? Castle Black?). Liked seeing Pod kick some more butt. I had one question during that engagement though. Where the hell did the hound dogs go? They were suddenly not there. I also would have thought Roose would be a bit more pissed that Ramsey lost Sansa. He was kind of nonchalant about it.

Coup in Dorne was a bit rushed... War looks like its officially happening, but now the Lannisters have two fronts.

Poor Arya. Now getting her butt kicked daily. I bet she's comes out even more badass though.

I love Davos. He's even willing to unleash the Red priestess (gross!). Kind of not sure why the mutineers just don't torch the building they are held up in. Also, don't know why they didn't secure Jon Snow's body right away. Why leave him lying there?

Still need to see what Bran is up to and I want some Iron Islands damnit.

I was curious about the hounds as well. Too nervous over the finicky and over-taxed HBO Now to rewind to though.

Dorne was just house-cleaning for the insane character count. They couldn't do what happened in the books.

I had one question about the Sand Snakes killing Tristane (sp?). Where were they? Did he travel on a separate boat to Kings Landing? I was really confused where the assassination was taking place.

I believe he was sent to King's Landing along with his wife-to-be. For Ellaria that would serve two purposes:

1.) His presence and exposure in King's Landing gives them reason to feign innocence over Myrcella's death.

2.) His death gives her a fresh excuse to wage bloody war basically right when she comes to power.

It was t very clear, but this is my head-canon for now.

But if he sailed with them to Kings Landing how did the Sand Snakes get in the boat? They watched them sail away. I'm confused.

The only throne that matters.

There's really no spoiler here. Click if you dare.

Oh. Here you go. This makes Jaime a lot closer to the books in temperament at this point.

That makes a little more sense. My guess is the Sand Snakes grabbed a boat and followed them to Kings Landing. Then they boarded the boat to kill the Prince. Not much for guards on that boat.

Guards were probably in on it. Palace guards certainly were. Shame they killed off Hotah in such a lame way. The buildup and exchange between Arys and Areo was so good.

Yeah, I'd like to see him go out fighting. Not stabbed in the back.

Very much a lets get rid of a bunch of characters quickly.

I'm having so much trouble separating the series from the books.

OK...I did see it last night.

I'm having so much trouble separating the series from the books.

Yeah....me too. Especially since I went and re-read the last two books last summer. It's a bit disjointed. It feels wrong.

The whole Dorne thing just seemed stupid. I dunno. Just...lame? Kind of just killed it off to make it go away?

What's the deal with Jamie and his sister? In the books, Jamie is so done with his sister. He ignores her plea for help. So, what's up with that.

I guess Stoneheart is not going to happen in the tv show? Jamie being captured by her is not there, either?

I still say that the whole Stannis thing is going to go down different in the books. He's going to win the battle that's about to happen.

What's happening to Sansa in the books is so much more interesting than what's happening in the tv show.

I still say Jon Snow is coming back. She hasn't done her last rights yet.
