New player - Vader list

By Hamanu1, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi,

This is my first post here. I've gotten into Armada about a month ago and I own the following ships

Core

ISD

Gladiator

Imperial Squadron Pack

R&V

I have made the following list to play against a "seasoned" player coming to my town next Saturday and I'd appreciate some advice regarding my list. I have played 4 games so far with a friend who is also a newb.

Vader's rerollers
Author: Hamanu

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 392/400

Commander: Darth Vader

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Hyperspace Assault
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

[ flagship ] Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer (120 points)
- Darth Vader ( 36 points)
- Avenger ( 5 points)
- Captain Needa ( 2 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
- Leading Shots ( 4 points)

Victory I-Class Star Destroyer (73 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Demolisher ( 10 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)

2 TIE Fighter Squadrons ( 16 points)
1 TIE Interceptor Squadron ( 11 points)
1 Dengar ( 20 points)
1 "Howlrunner" ( 16 points)

The idea is to use the ISD as a massive reroller with both leading shots and Vader. Demolisher is to jump in for triple tap and the VSD is there, basically, to run the fighter screen and shoot when she can. I have already learned that the VSD is a barely mobile weapons platform, and I usually keep her as flank protection for the ISD.

I have opted to have more capital ships and less fighters for this engagement so I'm thinking these 5 should keep the enemy occupied for a round or 2 while the ISD and Demolisher do the heavy lifting.

Does this list seem viable?

Tnx.

I tested this list against my buddy (and so far only opponent).

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 398/400

Commander: Darth Vader

Assault Objective: Opening Salvo
Defense Objective: Contested Outpost
Navigation Objective: Intel Sweep

Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer (110 points)
- Avenger ( 5 points)
- Captain Needa ( 2 points)
- Phylon Q7 Tractor Beams ( 6 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
- Overload Pulse ( 8 points)

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Demolisher ( 10 points)
- Wulff Yularen ( 7 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)

[ flagship ] Victory I-Class Star Destroyer (73 points)
- Darth Vader ( 36 points)

2 TIE Interceptor Squadrons ( 22 points)
1 "Mauler" Mithel ( 15 points)
1 "Howlrunner" ( 16 points)
1 TIE Advanced Squadron ( 12 points)

Since the objective was the Opening Salvo the Avenger was a killer in the game. especially with overload pule and TRC (aided by Needa), consistently rolling lots of hist, blowing up an MC30, the C90 and seriously crippling the MC80 before going down in flames.

The VSD is a problem, basically, it barely managed to shoot once but I'm not sure what to do with it. So far its only role is to safeguard one of the ISD's flanks and since I own no other ships I can either keep it in that role or ditch it for more squadrons and upgrades. Ideally I should either buy another gladiator or an ISD, but for the time being I cannot. :)

Any advice would be appreciated.

I like the second list better than the first. Not much point paying for upgrades to give rerolls when you just paid for Vader as your admiral.

You realise that the Overload pulse effect won't help out on the same volley for the Avenger rule to work? The crit effect happens after the enemy spend defence tokens. It can be used if you double arc someone and are lucky enough to get a blue crit on the flank shot to then use the front shot to devastating effect. Problem is an ISD-I has no blue dice on the side armament.

Ditch overload pulse for Gunnery Teams or keep it and move OL/Pulse to a VSD-II but that is a 12 point increase over the VSD-I and you rarely can get the combo to work. Maybe then also swap Avenger for Relentless. A reasonable 4-8 point initiative bid is always welcome.
