Super Dengar vs Wired Dengar Discussion

By AT Leader, in X-Wing Squad Lists

These are the builds I have in mind for this comparison. Please feel free to talk about changes that would effect your opinion, but keep in mind the purpose of each build (aka: aggressive vs defensive)

Super Dengar - 52 pts

Dengar w/ PTL, Unhinged Astromech, K4 Security Droid, Punishing One

* As far as I understand Super Dengar looks to Take advantage of the synergy between PTL/Unhinged Astromech/K4 Security Droid to consistently modify rolls with TL/Focus

Wired Dengar - 50 pts

Dengar w/ Wired, R5-P8, Zuckess, Punishing One

*Throw actions out the window! Force green die re-rolls with Zuckess for stress which becomes focus re-rolls for red/green die. R5-P8 potentially punishes anyone dodging Denagr's arc (may be unnecessary).

Which build do you like better and why?

I am also interested in other builds that you have found success with.

First thing to note is: a huge part of why Super Dengar is "Super" lies on Engine Upgrade. So, true Super Dengar is actually 56 pts. This turns him into a beastly arc-dodger with TL and turret attacks every turn.

With that said, Wired Dengar locks him out of a great trump card: barrel roll. Wired/Zuckuss pairings benefit the most those ships that don't have many options to begin with (at this point, the HWK). So I'm not really sure that Wired Dengar is a thing.

Another build that works for him and fits a more defensive archetype is this:

Dengar (33):

• Predator (3)

• Recon Specialist (3)

• R5-P8 (3)

• Punishing One (12)

Total: 54 pts

This build trades Super Dengar's mobility and action-economy for a bulkier-defense and better ability-exploitation. PredSpec modifies both shots or you can use the second focus token for defense. Barrel roll to get away from focus fire.
