VCX-100 and B-wing

By Rasputindarksyde, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have a local tournament coming up and I would like to get some opinions.

Chopper: Title, Zeb, Hera, Autoblaster, FCS, Ion Projector

Ezra: Title

Numb: Calculation, Advance Sensors

I feel comfortable with flying both ships. I have just never flown them together. Do you think there is enough punch? Does it have good staying power? Obviously Ezra is designed to stay on the Ghost. The list can do 5 damage a turn that can not be evaded. Of course 4 of those are range one. Which shouldn't be to much trouble to get into. As Chopper is designed to do that anyways.

Well what do you think?

you're not going to get a focus each turn though. I'd rather drop the ion proj. and get a mangler cannon, or downgrade to Zeb shuttle and pick Han instead of Zeb crew

Sure but I save points over mangler. Zeb seems far better on chopper. Getting a 5 dice attack and then a 2 dice attack that can't be evaded. Or 4 dice attack that can't be evaded. Ioning them and then them getting stress is pretty amazing. IMHO.

This might actually be a very rare application for Enhanced Scopes to guarantee you get to move where you want and hopefully get them to bump. But yeah, stressing and ioning is pretty sweet. Potentially you could trap them and keep them bumping in your front arc, unable to get away. Although you'd be bumping too. Maybe Advanced Sensors then? And of course Accuracy Corrector + autoblaster just gives aces fits, although FCS is cheap and almost as reliable. You know, if you have zeb anyway ... maybe instead of the autoblaster, take an ion turret? That means if the ion projector doesn't get 'em, you can always ion them with that. And it gives you more ways of controlling the enemy's movement (and getting them to bump you!). Engine Upgrade might also be worth taking in this set-up, then you're relying on the turret + zeb to ion them.

I would like to see PTL on Ezra ... I realise you're just going for the cheapest shuttle that isn't Zeb but that really is pretty sweet on Ezra if you end up using him.

I don't really like the B-wing in this list. I find that in Ghost + Something Else builds the something else gets hammered, hard. I think a single B-wing just evaporates too fast. I'd like to see something either more durable or swap it out for some cheaper ships. I think ol' Ten is just going to die before achieving much.

I like the idea of the Ion Turret. I just don't feel it's good enough in a Tournament. I rather do damage with my turret since I can fire it twice if needed.

I did play something like this with Ello: Outmanuever, R2-D2, Integrated. It worked pretty good. So I might go with that instead.

Not sure about the ion vs autoblaster. The autoblaster wallops aces, sure, but they have to come within range 1. The ion does a pretty reliable 2 damage per turn and ionises even big ships at ranges 1-2. Costs a bit more. I've played both and I'm finding that good players can often stay out of range 1 with agile aces and the autoblaster isn't all that against heavy ships. I think the meta is getting pretty ion-vulnerable.

Not sure shield-regen does much better, honestly. The problem is you second ship has a tendency to get walloped hard. I've been running zeb with the phantom and a second shuttle alongside the VCX with Ezra, PTL, Jan Ors and Stealth Device. So he can double-evade and get free focuses on 3 evade dice. The enemy often get distracted trying to hit him and tend to avoid the VCX. I was running Biggs for quite a while and he generally didn't survive more than 2 rounds of shooting and that wasn't really worth his points value.

I did forget about being able to completely Ionize a Lg base ship in a turn. Things to think about.

I think Biggs would work better with Kannan in the Ghost. Reduce damage coming to Biggs with his ability. I played the Ello version the other day and worked really well. He can get out of arc very easy enough and with Outmaneuver can put out some damage as well.

Numb + Calculation + Ion Cannon

He ions them, next round chopp can double tap them with ABT!!! Dead aces everywhere!

I fairly recently played Ghost with an ion cannon turret in a casual game.

I have to say, I was very impressed by the results.

Having two taps with the ion turret is amazing. Obviously you mostly only do that when the ghost doesn't have arc for it's primary, but even so....

Never did need to ionize a large ship in that game, but did ionize two small ships in the same turn. Much fun was had, although It did make me feel a bit dirty.

It was actually one half of a 200pt list (we were doing a 2v1 match) but I've been doing some some experimenting with the 100pts that contained the ghost.

Zeb Orrelios + Phantom

Jake Farrell + Push the Limit + Chardaan Refit + Autothrusters + A-Wing Test Pilot + Veteran Instincts

Kanan Jarrus + Ion Cannon Turret + Sabine Wren + Recon Specialist + Ghost + Proton Bombs

is what I've been playing around with. Not sure if the bomb package is the right direction, but I'll find out after I get chance to trial it properly.

Heh I like that, that's pretty cute.

Could also cheap out and do a one-shot version with Blout and ion pulse but that's a nice Numb build indeed. If you can find the points, stick Tactician on that too :)

you're paying so much for Ten Numb that I think if you don't get a crit each single round you're kind of wasting him, since he dies so easily he has to make an impact in those few rounds, so he has to reliably have a crit each round. if you just rely on getting a focus on 3 dice then those are not very good odds.

just as well, ion proj is only 50% chance each bump, so you have a significant 25% chance of not ioning anyone for 2 bumps in a row. considering a large base needs 2 ion tokens, it's a sometimes useful upgrade but not something I would rely on in a tournament where you want to be competitive. for a casual list, by all means fly anything. when it does work, yes it's great, stress and ion. but half the time it won't work

due to points, I would either drop it and upgrade Ten, or keep it and get a different wingman.

probably not possible in your list, but if you absolutely want to ion someone, Ten with ion torpedoes gives you 2 autohits with guidance chips.

Yeah I think you are right. I ended up totally changing it anyways.

I went Kenkirk with Vader.

But thanks a bunch guys. I think it might be fun to try casually. Might try it out.
