loose cannon difficulty level (spoilers!)

By theundead, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Is it just me, or is this mission ridiculously in favor of the heroes? they have 7 rounds to kill all the imperial units, which stop reinforcing after round 3? how could anyone think this is IP favored?

p.s. I don't know how to open a "spoiler" paragraph, if that's even possible. Can someone show me how to do so?

Thanks!

Depends on the heroes and at which spot the mission is played. I managed relatively well, winning against the heroes with Technological Superiority when played as the first side mission. https://boardgamegeek.com/article/18796037#18796037

Side missions are generally made for the rebels to win.

You can do stuff like try to run your troops away from the rebels with the best guns, save your threat until you've lost most of your troops then drop a bantha on the board as far away from their strongest DD as possible and reinforce a royal guard behind it to give it a block.

Or you can try to use the officer screen, keep officers in front of royal guards so they can cower and get a free block even if they don't dodge.

Only that you can use the bantha in very few situations in the campaign due to being Massive and Habitat:Desert. Also one Royal Guard won't work with the Bantha as they will just target a space non adjacent to the Guard.

But having fly away droids who heal each other is one of the best bets here I think. (reg Probes with the Tech Superiority 1 XP card)

I remember this (sadly). There was a point early in that mission where Diala failed a Force Throw skill check and things snowballed. You had the AT-ST pinned between the Royal Guard Champion and a well placed E Web.

I think the Rebels should avoid this mission early. I've played it three times. The one A1bert referred to was the second, and we we're beat soundly. The first was a close call as the second side mission, but a Rebel win. They had decent gear by then and brought Rebel Saboteurs also. The Sabs were particularly effective. The third time I played it I certainly remembered most of the surprises, but it was also the last side mission in the campaign. I had no trouble taking down the RGC (especially since he came right at Jyn without ensuring she couldn't interupt first).

The RGC is what makes this one really tough early. He's a tough nut to crack with starter weapons. If he dodges the AT-ST once he's hard to hurt. Later it's hard for the IP to overcome limited Threat though.

I found the opposite. We played this as the 2nd side mission and destroyed the rebels. I won by mid round 3. RGC overwhelmed them
