Summoning agents questions

By Ariser, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello. At first I would like to apologize since Im pretty sure these questions popped before and Im just unable to find it.

Anyway, back to business.

The questions are about summoned agents.

1. If I play with only 2 heroes and want to summon agent I cannot do it in some of the groups since they just dont include master monster. Am I correct?

2. Often there is a sugestion to use weaker agents (like Merrick Farrow) with a Ironbound monster group. But isnt that only reasonable with 4 heroes in play? With 2 heroes you shouldnt be ale to summon Merrick (vide 1. question) and with 3 you only get 1 master monster so Merrick will just replace him so there is no way I can benefit from using that monster group. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for answers and sorry one again if that was asked before.

Best regres!

If you summon an agent into a open group and you can't replace enough monsters in that group, you replace the whole group.

1 - Wrong, you can. If an agent asks to remove more monster than avalaible in the group, you remove the full group. Its particulary usefull with kobolds. For example, is using Valyndra with Ettins, then the whole group is replaced as long as Valyndra is in play, and so regardless from the number of heroes.

2 - You're right. Using an agent with Ironbound in less than 4 heroes leaves you with the loss of the possibilty to cover him with the other ironbound since he will not be avalaible.

Using agents is oftenly better with big groups, like Kobolds for example.

Thank you for your answers. :)

Since the whole group is replaced, why would it matter if the group was Kobolds rather than, say, Ettins?

I haven't explained myself well.

In fact, in depends on the number of heroes.

let's take Valyndra. In a 2 player game, there's only one Ettins, so, it is replaced for Valyndra. If kobolds, you still have 1 master who summons 1 minor each turn, up to two, and then the group is full.

So, except for Queen Ariad and Mirlkace, since they replace the full group in all case, it is always a good idea to use kobolds with agents.

There was an FFG rules response which said if the agent replaces 1 master and on minion and your group is kobolds, you remove 1 master, and then you simply have one fewer minion you can spawn (it drops the group limit).

EDIT: Silly me, it was rugal who posted that response. He knoes what he is talking about.

There is a specific rule for Kobolds on summoning agents ? You mean that with kobolds if you have to remove 1 master and 1 minion you will have to remove actually 2 masters and one minion to summon the agent ?

Edit : ok i missed the beginning as the discussion started in another thread.
