Any 1 hp attachments to reduce cumbersome i could put in the riot shield?
reduce cumbersome
-- sound of pages furiously flipping --
None by raw. an argument could be made that a weapon sling usually used on ranged heavy weapons could work, but its a bit dubious in my mind. Personally i think the best way to get what you need is lop of your arm and upgrade it with a much superior mechanical cybernetic arm ![]()
Lift weights and get stronger.
You can always take the Heavy spec and ranks in Burly...
Force Sensitive and Enhance would do it too

Actually did this once. That said, I was the GM, the player agreed, and he had a a bunch of stuff to account for after missing a few sessions (during the siege of a city, no less). He said "I want to wield a saber pike but I'm Brawn 2" and I said "I have a solution to both our problems." ![]()

That’s what I’ve done every time I had a character that needed to carry around more stuff that was bulky and cumbersome.

No attachments that I can think of, but you could always go the DIY route, build one and hope you get enough advantage/triumph to get the "Reduce encumbrance" mod.

Hadn't even thought of this. There's no reduce Cumbersome but there doesn't need to be as the base shield template doesn't have any Cumbersome. It would be a really good roll to duplicate what a riot shield has in the book, but by the same token a good roll could result in a lot of different options the riot shield doesn't have. It's only an average Mechanics or Survival roll as well to craft one, so a good Mechanic should make a pretty good one.
It doesn't have a cumbersome reduction mod? Ah well - that's what you get for going from memory on a game mechanic I haven't committed to memory yet. I'll just say that I'm too broken up by the death of Prince to think straight and call it a day. ![]()
Brawl/Melee doesn't need it as none of the base templates impose a Cumbersome penalty.
Crating is pretty amazing in this game - if you do it well. Most of the templates are roughly half the cost of buying the item and the advantage/triumph table means a great mechanic can make things that fit a certain playstyle really well. Of course, some items are not actually craftable RAW... The +1 Int cybernetic comes to mind, though it's not unreasonable to say it uses the Cybernetic Appendage template with increased difficulty due to requiring neuroscience knowledge? There are a few random downsides, though - none of the blasters you build come with Stun Setting and it's impossible to add it. You can only get Stun 3. So all of your blasters are amazingly Lethal. Also, you've got hard times with specific grenades and missiles.
But, back to the topic at hand, you can just craft a shield. That one works out for the better.
I'm AFB but couldn't you Jury Rig it to reduce the Cumbersome Quality by one? Also what about the Superior Quality?

Encumbrance.

This attachment reduces the Cumbersome quality of any shield by 1. There are no mods.
(It's the strap on this shield from which it is hanging:)

Thanks.
The more I consider this the less I think it's a good idea to allow a reduction in Cumbersome. I've used a riot shield in Paintball and they are, and need to be, pretty big so as to cover the majority of your body from incoming fire. Any smaller and your opponents will just shoot under the shield and hit your legs. So I'd advise not allowing it while the shield is in use. That said I would be okay with allowing it to fold, reducing ENC, for carrying around but since Cumbersome only affects the PC when they try and use it this would really do much.
Edited by FuriousGregAs mentioned above a couple times, real world tactical shields do often have a sling. So house ruling a current mod or making a new mod that decreased cumbersome by 1 doesn't defy logic. Note that the riot shield described in RAW is more like a real world heavy bullet resistant shield then a real world riot shield (light, won't stop bullets only rocks, bottles, etc).

I most likely can after a talk with my gm or I might just up my brawn down the road. I liked the idea of the riot shield since you could use it with a ranged heavy weapon which I recently aquired but as you noted in the crafting that is one of the things not on the list so not having the books I was curious if there was an attachment I could slip in for 1 hp (after using tinkerer of course) to get it down one on the encumbrance. Sadly no but it is not the end of the world!

I don't think that strap is used the way the OP wanted it to be used. It's more for strapping the shield to the body when it's not in use that for making easier use of it.

Oh boy, I am HAPPY to get into an argument about how best to strap a shield (the real answer: "however you want"), but I can tell you for certain that guiges can be mighty helpful mid-combat.
(This is not even to mention the fact that the same could be said of rifle/long gun slings are also "primarily" for long-term carrying ease, but still have utility as an aid in aiming.)
Because encumbersance is never actually a weight related issue; it's the ease that a person can actually carry that object without feeling unwieldy. It's the reasons why backpacks reduce encumberance, doesn't make it any lighter, just a better distribution for longer haul journies.
The other thing you can do is take the 007 spec tree and ranks in the Reduce Cummerbund Talent...it won't help you carry anything, but it will boost your Charm to the point where any other equipment becomes unnecessary...

I agree. Especially with the second paragraph since I know nothing about wielding a medieval shield other then what D&D taught me.
When I was in the military I taught using a shoulder sling (the simple type not 3-point or 1-point that we have now) to wrap around your forward arm when shooting. But, I also taught that your primary grip should be solid with your forward hand while your shooting hand should barely grasp the pistol grip, which was different then the standard technique.
Sorry for the tangent.
