How do groups distribute Seasonal kits to players?

By unfassbarnathan, in X-Wing

I know there is no definitive correct way to do this, but I am interested in how other gaming groups or stores distribute prizes from seasonal kits to players? Leagues, tournaments, just for turning up?

my FLGS does a league, and then distributes the prizes as for top players, we finish the league with a single elimination top 4 normally, but with the size our league has gotten to, and the prizes from the spring kit, we are doing a top 8 now. Anything we have left over from other older kits get thrown back into the box, and we use them as door prizes and extra prizes for the guys who didn't make top 4. we also do a $10 cover for entering our leagues, and after expenses (just the cost of the store getting the kit), the rest of the money goes back into store credit prizes. It's a nice little system we got set up, and it really rewards the players.

We split up the pack so that everyone gets something, running one tournament on our usual casual play night. We usually do these monthly. First place gets the medal and picks first, 2nd place 2nd, etc.

One fairly common way to do it is that you distribute any prize that there is X copies of to the top X players.

So, 1 Medal = top player

2 alt-art pilots = 1 to each of the top 2 players

4 dice bags = 1 to each of the top 4

etc.

The top player ends one of everything.

This is most similar to how official high level FFG tournaments are run, as far as I know (Regionals and such).

We try to run leagues that premiers attendence or we simply run a three or four round tournament following FFG's tournament structure withb the "prize" going to top players.

In the league, everyone (if possible) gets the alternate art and everything else is raffled away among those who attend a predetermined number of game nights.

My group runs a tournament, and pretty much top player gets 1st pick, then continues. Works fairly well to try to get everyone all of the swag but need enough to people to run a tournament. Another thing we started doing is just open play, where swag gets randomly thrown around to everybody
