Adventure - The Princess' Ride

By Funk Fu master, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

So whilst I impatiantly await my first game session in two weeks, I have been brainstorming up potential follow up adventures, So without further due, I give you (cue THX soundcheck)

Title Crawl:

The Princess’ Ride

After successfully completing their latest covert mission, the brave operatives are returning to the secret rebel base. They are waiting for their transport to be refuelled at a space station near Commennor

Unbeknown to them, DARTH VADER has captured one of the Rebellions key leaders, PRINCESS LIEA, and her personnel starship, TANTIVE IV.

The party is currently relaxing aboard the station, at the Galactic Dome café , located on the hub of the station. There [shuttle/freighter/fighters] are being refuelled and restocked at one of the docking arm bays, overseen by their [astromechs/rebel operative NPC]

The café’s titular feature is the enormous transparasteel dome overhead, which looks out onto the stars, and the main arrival point for the systems main hyperspace lane.

As your party enjoys their beverages, a bright flash overhead signals the arrival of a very large vessel exiting hyperspace. One or more members instantly recognise it as a Imperial class Star Destroyer. The enormous Imperial cruiser begins to pass overhead as it decelerates from lightspeed.

A member may roll a [Hard] knowledge check to identify the ship as the Devastator , Darth Vader’s personnel flagship. If successful, each PC must then pass an [average] fear check. If they failed to identify it they must pass an [easy] fear check. The vessel continues toward the station and passes overhead, revealing its main hanger bay to the occupants of the station.

The party then recognises a vessel docked within the bay. It’s identified as a CR90 Correllian Corvette. An unopposed Knowledge (pick best) check reveals that it is a Rebel ship. Any advantage identifies it as the TANTIVE IV. If not immediately obvious, prompt the party that vessel is Princess Liea’s personal transport (discussion should now insue)

As the party discusses, the Devestator continues to decelerate and come about, preparing to dock at the station.

What the party does next is up to them. Possible options include, but not limited to

  1. Attempt to rescue the Princess (They don’t know that she has already been transferred to the Death Star
  2. Rescue the captured crew
  3. Blow up the TANTIVE IV, to prevent it falling into the Imperials hands
  4. Steal back the TANTIVE IV, with or without the captured crews help
  5. Blow up or damage the Devestator
  6. Attempt to assassinate Darth Vader (Who is also no longer onboard, the ship is currently under command of Captain Needa)

Possible entry points onto the Star destroyer could be:

  1. Station Docking ring: entry will be guarded, however high flow of Imperial personnel and supplies could be advantageous
  2. Externally via EVA – most stealthy but risky crossing over to the ship, and finding an entry
  3. Flying into main/secondary hanger – difficulty of detection would depend on what vessel is used

Once onboard, there will be a whole star destroyer to explore, which is a daunting task. Restrict the PCs to several key locations in order to keep the story moving

  1. Hangerbay
  2. Hangerbay docking collar – Entrance onto TANTIVE IV
  3. Detention level
  4. Reactor room – if sabotage is their desire
  5. Bridge/Captains quarters – If assassination is their fascination
  6. Turbolift shaft – for spelunking around the ship

DEVESTATOR

Key personnel (use appropriate profiles from sourcebooks):

CAPTAIN Jhared Monteferrat (NEMISIS) – Captain of the Devastator

LEUT Ciena Ree (RIVAL) – Deck Officer (Note inclusion from new canon book Lost Stars )

Note for continuity purposes, if the PCs successfully sabotage the ship, the Devastator is not destroyed, as it appears in Empire Strikes Back. The same goes for Assassinating Captain Jhared Monteferrat.

Shortly after the PCs board the Star Destroyer, it departs the space station. One hour after this it will enter hyperspace for six hours. The PCs must either escape before then, wait for it to come out of lightspeed, or disable the hyperspace engine to escape

TANTIVE IV

In order to gain access to the TANTIVE IV, they will need to work their way to the hangerbay docking collar. Once inside, it will be minimally guarded and access to the bridge or reactor should be easy.

If they wish to steal it however, several key objectives need to be achieved. If the party does not have the necessary skill s, they will need to free the captured crew to perform those tasks

  1. Release docking clamp (Mechanics/explosives/computers)
  2. Disable Devestator’ s tractor beam and any weapons they can (Mechanics/explosives/computers)
  3. Repair TANTIVE’s reactor (It was shutdown due to damage during the battle) (Repair/engineering)
  4. Start up the ship (Piloting [space]) – takes 10 minutes
  5. Pilot the ship (Piloting [space])
  6. Man the guns (Gunnery)
  7. Plot hyperspace course (Astrogation – hard as it is a larger ship)

There are approx 50 captured crew held in the detention level that can be released. Key personnel are (use appropriate profiles from sourcebooks):

  1. Executive Officer (Piloting [space]3, astrogation 2, gunnery 2)
  2. Chief Engineer (Repair 3, engineering 3)
  3. Navigator (Astrogation 3)
  4. Gunnery Officer (Gunnery 3)

Once you free them from the detention level, you will need to arm them with whatever resources you can find (A triumph result on any check to look for weapons reveals an armoury (locked) with standard issue stormtrooper blaster rifles, enough for each crew member)

For every 10 crewmen that survive and escape to the TANTIVE IV, you may choose one of the following bonuses:

  1. Repair the reactor +1 boost die (once only) / repair checks +1 boost die (may be used multiple times, cannot stack)
  2. Ship Start-up time reduced by 2 minutes
  3. Piloting checks +1 boost die (may be used multiple times, cannot stack)
  4. Gunnery attacks +1 boost die (may be used multiple times, cannot stack)

The adventure concludes when the party successfully escapes the devestator into Hyperspace. Feel free to garnish with a return to Yavin to present the ship back to the Rebellion.

Hmm... I like the idea. I will steal it but shift a few things around. My campaign is happening well past the destruction of the death star but there are plenty of high ranking Alliance members who can be captured.

Thank you

So my party ran this last night after a few tweeks, and it was awesome!

One of the party, the pilot, was Raymus Antilles nephew, which provided the hook.

The team disguised as technical staff, hid aboard a provisions container and were craned aboard the Devestator.

They successfully stealthed around the ship, disabled the tractor beam, before finding the detention level.

Miraculously they broke open the prison without raising the alarm. Once the captured crew were released, they snuck down to dock control, hacked the computer system to allow not only remote control of the docking claw, but also to auto shutdown the ISDs hyperdrive (2 triumph!)

They boarded the corvette, pressed the button and rode the roller coaster as the behemoth broke out of hyperspace, off course, and carreened through an asteroid field.

The ship dropped from the hangerbay, swung astern and blasted out as quick as they could.

Devestator launched TIEs to persue and managed to get under control, ponderously banking to port to bring its immense guns to bare. However some miraculous shooting from the Corvettes turbolasers rent open the unshielded side of the behemoth, allowing it to escape with only moderate damage and live on to fight for the Rebellion.

Great session, good as a one shot as part of a campaign, and a great farewell to our Pilot PC who will be away for 4 months
