Vader's Raiders

By MrTopHatJones, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I got to thinking with the Needa/Vader/TRC thread on the main page and dreamt up this list.

Vader costs more than Screed but I save points on ordinance experts on all my black dice ships.

The idea is: 1 Raider goes out with the Demolisher. The ISD hangs back with the other Raider in tight to protect it from other ships/squadrons. Contain can get spent relatively comfortably and I can use the evade for TRCs following.

Questions:

1. I know it's a Demo build, but do I have to care about initiative here? If I go 400 pts, I go second (probably). Most Wanted would let me keep my ISD back and bring them to me. CO/Minefields would do the same.

2. Is there any reason to take an ISD1 with this build? Probably not since then I make an evade relatively worthless but I wanted to gather opinions.

Well, sure, but on a 2 you at least have the option of keeping it for defense if needed.

First battle report: Tabled my opponent in 5 rounds. Lost a Raider and came within a hair of losing Demolisher (1 HP, no defense tokens left). Sending the other ships in first helped Avenger mop up pretty easily.

I like the list. It's scary gambling those ACM's off the front of the Raiders, but I guess if you're liberal with the CF it's not too bad. And since they're hardly the core firepower of the fleet, it's probably not terribly devastating when they don't proc.

The Raiders are basically targets and a meat shield from Demolishers for my ISD. I try to run one near the ISD for that reason (putting it between the ISD and whatever their black dice threat is) and take the other forward with Demolisher; in this case, my 2nd Raider limped off as well, but the split damage meant Demolisher lived another day.
