"Chopper" Crew and Free Actions

By Danomight, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Here's the scenario I'm envisioning:

A K-Wing equipped with Advanced Slam, the Chopper crew, and Connor Nets performs its maneuver, then takes a slam action that carries the ship over a debris. The K-Wing lands without overlapping. You take a stress for moving through the debris. Does Chopper crew let you perform the free action granted by Advanced Slam?

The gist of the question: Does "actions" in Chopper crew's ability apply to "free actions"?

"You may perform actions even while stressed."

"After you performed a SLAM action, if you did not overlap an obstacle or another ship, you may perform a free action."

Chopper would allow you to perform an action while stressed (exactly what it says on the card), it it says nothing about overriding the limitations specified on advanced slam. But if he got a free action from some other source, the fact that he was stressed wouldn't matter to chopper.

Free Actions are still Actions.

Don't forget the rest of the Chopper card though. Each action you take while stressed causes you to take a point of damage. The K-Wing in your example could SLAM and take an action via Advanced SLAM but it will take two points of damage when it does.

In the OP the SLAM went through the debris, so only 1 damage. I'm not positive you get your a-slam action from that regardless though because you ran over a debris cloud.

Why will there be 1 damage unless it was caused by the debris. The K-Wing only hit the debris after it executed the SLAM. So end result should be one stress token, one debris check and no opportunity to use "Chopper" due to Advanced SLAM's limiting the action.

The 1 damage is from chopper when you take the free action granted by advanced slam. In addition you could roll a crit for the debris.

Advanced Slam does not allow you to perform a free action if you overlap an obstacle during the Slam.

ah. read the card before answering.

Interesting interaction I just thought of...

If a K wing with Chopper is double stressed, could it do a green maneuver, clear a stress, activate chopper to SLAM, do a second green maneuver to clear the second stress, and then using AdvSLAM to drop a bomb?

Yes, this would all work I think.

What a shame K-wings can't take Rage :)
