Monday Night Gaming: X-Wing, DiceHate Productions and what you would like to see.

By KrisSherriff, in X-Wing

Hi all,

As we seem to have settled in to a routine now for Monday Night Gaming I wanted to start opening the show up to ideas from the viewers on what you would like to see.

We have managed to not miss a show since we started 3 months ago, we have had our hiccups along the way and I am learning every show, and hopefully getting better!

This is a thread to post any ideas you would like to see, anything you liked or disliked?

Off the top of my head we have:

  • Gone through 3 overlays (and I am still working on the next one)
  • Tried two different camera angles ant different highs.
  • Done ship review segments with graphics on the analysis desk.
  • Actually having an Analysis Desk.
  • Player interviews pre and post game
  • Open table talk of what we are thinking during games.
  • Mission play through from the various packs.
  • feature matches with specific ships or builds in mind.

I am sure there is other stuff I am missing but as we move forwards and want to start planning ahead more what would you guys like to see more of?

Ideas I am bouncing around are things like a dedicated news segment with not just FFG News but event results and stuff.

More feature matches featuring less played ships.

Beginner to intermediate content were we cover things like the rule of 11, rock choice and placement and that kind of stuff.

I would love as much input for the community on what you would like to see as possible.

I am keen to actually start producing more content through DiceHate Productions as well now that The Sentry Box's Monday Night Gaming seems to be in a healthy place but the question comes how much over lap would you want to see?

I am obviously free to pursue a wider range of things through DiceHate as when I am on NOVA or MNG I am obviously representing a brand that I feel some responsibility towards, for DiceHate I can be a little more uncensored and have some ideas but again all input is welcome.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advanced for your comments!

Kris

Keep up the good work. I try to pop in and watch this one as well as Twitch Tuesday. Both are very entertaining.

Would require a much greater level of editing but:

I would so very much love to see at least high-lights and crucial turns of an X-wing match presented with commentary in a shorter video. Say 25 minutes +/- 10? Could be done without recording new audio if you make sure to have a pre-game rundown on lists and strategies and a post-game post-mortem discussion of how things went down.

Personally, I would subscribe and even support a channel that did bite-size informative videos about how elite players lose and win games.

Thanks man, I am glad yo

I have ideas for just such a project that I will be (hopefully) starting up in May, that will be through DiceHate Productions but is something I am looking forward to, feel free to hassle me about it if you have not seen anything by the end of May ;)

Personally, I'd love to see Armada again on Monday Night gaming. Don't get me wrong, I love X-Wing (and I love what you've been doing with the show with it), but branching out some (like you've done showing IA) wouldn't hurt. As for DiceHate, I'd like to see Infinity, but you almost HAVE to have a handheld cam for that.

Not quite sure how you accomplish this. But, it would be great to have a review of results (and maybe even highlights) from major tournaments and discuss. This would require you to have the results from the big ones which, depending on the venue, may not go up on list juggler . Perhaps you would just need to contact the event locations and ask that they send you any information that they can.

Basically Kris, I want you to turn into X-Wing ESPN. Except you're in Canada, your theme song is better, its not sports, you actually say things of substance and you're not a network.... Maybe ESPN was a bad example.

Thankyou for the opportunity to provide feedback on the program.

an opportunity I shall now make expert use of....

and request the following-

1. The occasional prize drawing from amongst the live viewers. nothing crazy....a card here and there. no shipping hassles. just anything that can fit in an envelope. Those of us wo enjoy the show are low and greedy creatures. Tantalising prizes say...an autothruster card to prevent an uneccassary third purchase of a starviper. ..or an incredibly rare push the limit printed in Canadian language instead of the regular english ones.

This will draw additional viewers and grow your program to new dizzying heights.

2. A mascot. I would like to see on the commentators desk,a bowl of gravy and cheese with a jawa action figure basking in it like a hot tub, while holding a tiny model of a bottle of decent scotch.

We shall call him `Pouteenee!` He will tell amazing jokes and between matches someone reaches into his cheesy goodness and pulls a name of someone in the chat feed to win the above mentioned Canadian foreign language cards.

3.rotate the dice cam so that when a player rolls it will display on the side of the person rolling. It was backwards last time and while not a major issue, it is just into the realm of disjointed and easily enough corrected. I would hate to be dizzy trying to make sense of some epic dice rolling and end up missing hearing my name called to win a upgrade card from POUTEENEE.

4. Roadies- Few things build up the excitement for a good rock concert than watching the roadies dash to and fro setting everything up on stage. This sense of excitement and tension can be used to grow a heavily salivating audience. leave the live feed on while bearded men in black tshirts scurry about setting up the game mat and the players cards and templates for them. Get them to occasionally say `testing 1,2,3` into the mic and fire off a fog machine periodically.

5. Imperial forces have entered the base.....Imperial forces have entered the FFFFFZZZZZZZSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHS.....

......

You, sir, win the internet for the day. I will never, ever hear a Jawa say anything else.

Now I am imagining an X-wing miniatures Restaurant and Playspace. Buffalo X-wings. Pad Tie. Scyk and Sour Chicken. Obi-Wan Cannolis. Somebody get on it!

Armada should be making a come back once we get scheduling sorted out, our armada league finished and so people were taking a break but I am sure me and Greg could bust out some Capitol Ships every once in a while. The main issue with Armada from the show perspective is that it is a much slower paced game and so lends itself to the prerecording and editing but is something we can work with.

Long term the entire goal I have for DiceHate and MNG is to have that quality of broadcast, I plan on doing live event coverage but at the moment I am still recovering from the initial investment to get all of this off the ground.

I have contemplated starting a go fund me or a patron but I wanted to have some content out so that people could see what the goal was and just how much work I am putting in to this. If it falls flat on its face, at least I tried.

The big thing is that this is now my Job, I left a (relativly) well paying job where I was not happy to peruse this and whilst it is still early I am taking it seriously. Hopefully that shows in the stuff I put out there.

STUFF

...

I am not even Canadian ;)

I do have a big pool of prizes to give out (all small things) but I wanted to see if the show could stand on its own, I didn't want people to think I was just trying to buy views.

It is something we will start up again though.

Kris

P.S. This is turning in to a bit of an AMA so why not; Hi, I'm Kris Sherriff, Owner of DiceHate Productions, Host of Monday Night Gaming and Co-Host on NOVA Squadron Radio, Ask me Anything...

Well i will get you whatever coverage I can from the major events that I attend. I am sure many others would volunteer to be your reporting network.

The one time I saw you do it, I thought the prerecorded, sped up format with commentary worked just fine.

I had also had a brief conversation after the show on Monday about potentially doing a more casual stream on Sundays where we have games being played. Nothing nailed down yet but we may have some Sunday Casuals soon...

Wow... this may be the best post I have ever read of yours, Velvetelvis! Quite awesome. Love the Jawa Mascot idea. Roadies and setup... this would be pretty cool to see, though all of that may happen before the Twitch stream is plugged up and brought live. It would be good to see what is going on and let the TwitchCrew get into full lather before you ever have to start speaking. And cards mailed out would be cool, but I'm not going to be influenced one way or the other. I watch when I am able to because I want to see more X-Wing... and fun accents make it even better.

News just in, I should have some exclusive goodies to give away on the show on May 2nd so make sure you tune in for that one if you like free, exclusive stuff.

Things are good. Any ideas on what you will be discussing? I know its a bit early.

What would be really great was if you could, occasionally, do a game based on lists chosen by viewers. Let folks see how some of the more common meta choices play against each other. Not mirror matches, but maybe something popular versus something unusual?

And is there something in my settings I need to check? The sound quality is terrible. Very hissy and even echo-y.

We are looking at a League match from the Jedi League, I have not picked which one yet though and we are lining up a couple of live players so you may not get to see me play this week.

I will see if any news comes up over the weekend but no hot topics currently, anything you would like to see covered.

This is something that we are more than open to, we don't currently have a MNG specific page but you can message me on here, post in this thread, message The Sentry Box on Facebook or email [email protected]

Just let us know the ships or list you would like to see, I am not saying we will feature every list every week but we are more than open to this kind of thing and have an extensive collection to chose from when it comes to making lists.

Have the post for tomorrows show up now, no specific topic for this one as we are in the middle of planning some new stuff so if you have anything you want us to talk about.

Kris

I came through for some of the viewers and sorted out the design for the Fly what now? T-Shirt.

https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/492375-fly-what-now

I have other stuff planned but need to make time to sit on the computer and design some others...

Kris

Well,

'Pouteenee' is obviously a must.

Just keep doing what you are doing regardng everything else.

I alwyas watch your show the day after as the time differnce isn't allowing me to tune in live.

Have the dice cam oriented so the left person's dice are on the left and vice versa

We have some good stuff to try out for the Live Regional coverage tomorrow.

I am fairly excited.

Kris

All of this pleases me GREATLY!!!1!1!1!

All hail the great pouteenee!
