Dash/ VCX build

I would like to run Dash and a VCX together. Am thinkinh of

Dash

PtL, Mangler cannon, Kannan, outrider, EU

Comes in at 55 pts,

So if using the VCX, what is the best build I can get with the remaining points.

If you're ballsy? Kannan on the VCX and Kyle on Dash for great action economy. fCS, Autoblaster and Han crew are great as well on a Lothal rebel.

^If you give the VCX Kanan, you'll want Dash to stick close so he can have his stress cleared -- maybe consider giving the VCX Tactical Jammers to support this close flying. If you slap on the Hera crew for the VCX, it doesn't really care if it is stressed or not, most of the time.

I'm trying to think of an alternative setup for the VCX if you don't have Han Crew (womp womp), though my Dash is also running HLC instead of Mangler.

I really hate mangler on kanan dash. Not only is he incredibly maneuverable (meaning you should always be able to stay at r2), without kyle passing a focus, mangler drops the possible damage output immensely.

I have been working on something similar. Right now I am thinking

- Accuracy Corrector

- Zeb crew

- Antipursuit Lasers

It is completely untested by me at this point, it might be a pain without EU, but

I am hoping with Kanan I will be able to survive with just barrel roll repositioning.

Chopper is more of my blocker and ace bully. At least that is the theory. Might just crash and burn against the U Boats though.

For a cheap but punchy VCX, I would try the following:

Lothal Rebel

Autoblaster turret

FCS

Han Solo

Hera

Plasma torpedoes

Comes in at 45 points exactly. FCS allows you to make the most of your tasty big guns and Han allows you to use the TL as a Focus if that is more useful. Hera allows you to chose any move you like, even when stressed. ABT is cheap but will deter Aces from getting too close and the plasma torpedoes are a cheap way to enable your rear fire arc. Alternatively, you might want to use your Plasmas in your opening salvo if you are facing a well shielded opponent since they will not gain the agility bonus for Range 3 vs a secondary weapon. FCS also enables you to potentially fire torpedoes, even when stressed.

The other thought I had was drop chopper to a generic and lose anti pursuit for 42 points to enable a 58 Dash (allowing engine upgrade)

I like the thought, keeps close range as an issue. Doesn't punish bumping as much, but packs a punch out of the rear arc for one turn. It also enables the front arc more (with the FCS) instead of the range 1 turret dependency like the build I mention. Definitely something I would like to try to fly.

A few options mentioned in this post, I'd love to hear your choice(s) and results after you get some flight time in.

I don't play Rebels often, but I have tried the following list a few times with success. Hera with Nien Numb and intelligence agent can either block to set up Dash with a good shot, or you can adjust her dial to have her just past enemy ships and hit them with the autoblaster:

Took the below to a well-attended local tournament and took fourth place, but didn't come up against any Meta staples:

1st Round - 3 Imp Aces w/ TIE blocker (Heaver's Hoth list, I think). Played well, though my opponent was mostly able to avoid getting blocked by Chopper and I had a hard time landing hits after a Weapons Failure on him. Would have still won after taking out OL and the TIE, but the last round of combat dropped Dash below half health, giving my opponent a 50-38 victory - and that only because I misjudged if I should run away or try to block (I went with the latter, had a centimeter of space between his two aces and Dash after they moved :( ).

2nd Round - Palp Shuttle, Wampa, Howlrunner, Scourge, Alpha [interceptor]

Utilized the VCX's 5k and Hera crew for some AMAZING shots, and Dash doesn't have any real problem with swarms.

3rd Round - Named TIE and TIE/fo Swarm

Let the VCX tank the first round of swarm shots so I could get in range for some blocking and 5 dice shots. Dash circled the cluster and picked them off.

Two main observations for myself:

1. Kanan Dash is worth his weight in gold. Sure, not having the extra focus from Kyle was unfortunate sometimes, but I NEVER got blocked and could almost always outfly aces.

2. I've played the list on Vassal and on the table, have only had ONE shot where the Han Solo crew would have been useful. I'd MUCH rather sac Han for Chopper's ability - I triggered Chopper at least six times last night (use the 2 points from Han to upgrade from the Lothal Rebel).

Don't forget your VCX has a rear Torpedo arc. That can be a nasty surprise after a joust when they are setting up their next run and you pop them on your way away.

I personally won't go in without Autoblaster -- it's too clutch for when you catch a Carnor at range one (or it's a reason to break up enemy maneuvers, as they run away from range one, which is difficult in a ship that large and a 100% open dial).

Don't forget your VCX has a rear Torpedo arc. That can be a nasty surprise after a joust when they are setting up their next run and you pop them on your way away.

I didn't miss the rear arc, but I was SUPER aggressive with 5ks, so it was kind of like having a rear arc...

Usually it feels like Dash's partner ship is covering him -- last night felt a LOT more like Dash was covering the VCX.
