Acrylic Cluster Mines from Regionals - Legal or not?

By NeverBetTheFett, in X-Wing

LMwXav1.jpg3WJdvv7.jpgI can't seem to find anything about this in the forum, although I am still a bit new. Some of us have been "fortunate" enough to win acrylic cluster mines from Regionals. As most know, they are larger than the official carboard ones, and the guide does not fit a template. I emailed FFG about replacements and have got no response. Can I use these in a tournament this weekend? Could be fun.

Sorry. Just figured out how to add in the pictures.

I would ask the TO of the tournament when you get there. Bring the old set just in case.

Wait, who is using cluster mines?

I'm pretty sure FFG was giving everyone a hint when they made those crappy acrylics.

It's an official FFG product. i'd love for someone to tell me I couldn't use it, at which point I'd demand a replacement of equal value.

I'd allow it. It's not like it gives you some crazy advantage. It is Cluster Mines.

Wait....Sabine lets you do an extra damage off each template, right? Maybe that's worth it?

So it's like attack wing? Crap from tourneys are better than the bought product? Boo. I'd refuse a game from anyone with those templates that insisted on using them. Might as well get some dice with an extra crit on it. If that's the direction this is going, I'm glad I'm out. Asmodee seems to be having a distinctly shi**y effect on FFG product and policy.

Edit: Not saying they aren't legal; they most certainly are. Just bad policy imo, and I won't be a part of it.

you can't deploy them properly due to the fact that the nubs are too close together therefore they cannot be legal for play.

"Once per round..." Nevermind.

Seriously? Saw the pic that they are slightly larger but first I have heard of this.

If you have won a set and are willing to run Cluster Mines, go for it. Don't see how anyone can make a legitimate case against them.

As Ynot says, they can't even be deployed correctly.

Yes, this is pretty embarrassing for OP.

Yes, this causes a number of problems, and you could take them to a tournament and insist on using them.

No, I wouldn't try it myself.

Have you seen them with respect to the width of a movement template?

The template doesn't fit between the nubs. It CAN'T be deployed.

They are also bigger than the cardboard cluster mines. It is actually pretty pathetic how bad these things are. They should replace them.

At least they didn't mess up something that people actually use?

Specifically, from the images I've seen it looks as if the manufacturer was provided with a template that included something like a 1/4 inch offset from the template itself. The manufacturer then started punching out tokens based on the border+offset, rather than just the border, and no one caught the mistake until players started getting their hands on the tokens.

And yeah, it would be good if FFG set up a program to replace them, but that could be logistically complicated and fairly expensive. I don't know if they'll actually do it.

I'd drehmel them to fix them.

How could nobody catch it? They must not have even compared them to anything. The funniest thing is there are a bunch up for sale on ebay. Saw one for like $78 - lol. There really is no good excuse for how these turned out. Considering how much we spend on this game this is really pathetic.

Ya if it's official ffg, then you should be allowed.

If a TO tried to ban them, then I'd report that to ffg

Sure you can put them with your cards but you can't deploy them legally in game. They are not usable regardless of where they came from.

The template doesn't fit between the nubs.

I don't see how anyone could stop you using the carboard centre mine and the acrylic side ones. Assuming they fit together that is. I've not seen the pics

Those of you that haven't seen them or haven't seen the pictures comparing the cardboard ones with the acrylic ones shouldn't be commenting here.

NeverBetTheFett has pictures of them along with the 1 forward template. Hopefully he can put them up somewhere to show you folks. The template doesn't fit between the nubs. They are quite a bit larger than the cardboard ones. It is a complete farce that they sent these things out like they did.

Found a link to someone elses pics with them but they show the same thing NeverBetTheFett's pics do.

At least they didn't mess up something that people actually use?

Last year, too 16 prize was shield tokens. Excellent prize.

They may as well have not even given out prizes for the top 16 this year.

I will use mine every chance I get, and if I'm told I can't then FFG owes me a replacement

Yea, I think they should avoid bomb templates going forward. Not everyone uses them, even the Ion tokens with the spring kit I feel won't see that much use. Them stress tokens in the summer though.....

I'm gonna tell you that you can't use them, so that you can get a replacement from FFG.

:P

To the people saying it's ffg official so you can't be stopped from using it that's ridiculous. If you got a misprinted base chit that had a 125° firing arc somehow would you insist on using that? If the answer is still yes and you can't see why a TO is right to disallow that and equivalently disallow mines that are too large then I can't help you.

Also as a side note it's freaking hilarious to me that nikk whyte is the author of the big intentional draw shitstorm thread then also made the statement that they should be allowed to play with clearly crap tokens just because they're ffg official. I can't be the only one to note the irony.
