My humble opinion on how to fix Scum ships in one wave

By Schyzo Kitty, in X-Wing

I do like an illict slot on the Viper, but IMO, the systems slot is what makes the Viper really shine. And by the way, I Always use at least one Viper in any list I run my Scum in. As a small base, it is the best fighter the scum have.(with the proper upgrades that is).

General consence seems still to be that it is over cost by two points, but yeah, it a little said that it seems indeed to be the best fighter scum has to offer, well outside of Z95 and TLT-Y-Wings.

Jabba the Hutt - 2 crew slots, 7pts

At the start of the combat phase you may discard this card to choose one enemy ship. That ship receives one bounty token and one stress token.

Bounty Token - When shooting at a ship with a bounty token attackers may receive one stress token to roll one additional attack die then must receive a weapons disabled token for the next round. Bounty tokens remain on a ship for two rounds before being removed.

When assigning a Bounty token to a ship, place the $$ side up. At the start of the next combat round flip the token to display the $ side, then remove the token at the end of the round.

Not 100% on the cost, but the idea behind the Bounty token is that you ambush your prey with the extra die attack but lose the opportunity to attack for the following round due to over-committing and having to regroup, the attacker stress is meant to represent the plan going south and not being able to react as normal due to the regrouping process. Note that the extra attack die is optional, this is deliberate and there to simulate the option of a planned ambush as opposed to merely an attack of opportunity.

The defender's stress is meant to represent the panic of finding out the hard way someone wants you dead and then scrambling to survive.

Having the token last two rounds helps to stimulate the chase and the conspicousness of headlong flight and drawing attention.

The Bounty token itself would be printed with '$$' on one side and '$' on the reverse to signal the number of rounds left. The symbol used should be an appropriate Galactic Credit symbol to keep it fluffy.

What do you guys/girls think?

At that price (7pts) and with just 2 turns in effect it should give not only one extra dice, but as well a focus and target lock to use on that attack. The emperor gives you a free evade or crit every turn, your Jabba runs for just two turns and is nearly as expensive. And the target has the option to just run away for the second turn as well.

You could give everyone shooting at the bounty target a second attack at the beginning of the end phase, just like the second corran horn shot works and afterwards the weapon disable token, than the price and limited time to use sounds very good.

I hadn't considered a second attack as an option as I felt that would be completely overpowered. Having multiple ships take double attacks on most small base shops would likely be an insta-kill given good die rolls. The 'flight round' was designed to reward strategy for both attackers (executing a 2nd round intercept with another ship) and defenders (outflying opponents).

A free fully modified attack just for declaring a target seems a bit much thematically IMO and would be potentially devastating on all but high hp large base ships - especially with an end of round attack as well.

Ì wanted it to have the feel that any good pilot could escape if things went well (read lucky die rolls) while still accelerating the destruction of a large base ship.

As I stated, I'm not sold on the points cost but didn't want it to be too cheap as to be auto include for the bonuses. Maybe 5 or 6 points would be better.

Something nice from reddit:

Black Sun Starviper

Title

2 pts

When you reveal a maneuver, you may perform a free boost or barrel roll action.

Would help the generics a lot. Does not give you the option to fly 4 with auto thrusters though. If you make it -2 pts it to cheap imho.

For seven points, 2 crew slots, and a stress token for every ship that wants to take advantage of the bounty token, it should almost work like Advanced Targeting Computer instead of adding a die to pool. If you take the stress, you can add a hit result.

Jabba, crew would be awesome if if it combined gunner w/ kanan, once per round granting a gunner effect to a friendly ship within range 2

Then it becomes a clone of an existing mechanics, and Scum have never been about copied things. They get their hands on the old, run down and/or cast aside tech and try to invent new uses for them. Their flavour is built on working similar abilities and dealing with the drawbacks - hence the cloaking device random failure and Gonk's cut rate shield regen. The bonus is there, it just requires more effort to be beneficial.
