Four Sckyks List. Could it work?

By gamblertuba, in X-Wing

I know this is dumb. But I can't convince myself that it wouldn't work

Tansarii Point Veteran (17) x3
Deadeye (1)
Proton Torpedoes (4)
Guidance Chips (0)
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Torpedo) (2)
Serissu (20)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Proton Torpedoes (4)
Guidance Chips (0)
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Torpedo) (2)
Total: 99
Would certainly make for some very short games.

Take it to a tournament and let your record convince you.

I might win a game or two. Would certainly have plenty of time to eat and hang out between games.

Playing a friendly match this Friday, I will try this.

I don't know if there is enough here for me to like it over mangler or even hlc m3a's

I only own 2 Scyk's. Not running out to buy two more.

The list does give a reasonable chance of throwing 16 hits including a fair few crits.

You are spending 27 points on Serrisu. For 25, you could have N'Dru w/clusters, glitterstem, LW and chips for twice the damage on the alpha strike. Ordnance on Scyks makes no sense to me unless you need a cheap torpedo delivery system. Since torpedo are almost all worse than missiles, save the points and go with Z95's.

Deadeye

I liked Serissu with Swarm Tactics in my regionals build last year. That's a point more than VI, so maybe drop Serissu to a Flechette Torp or even, for a 2-point initiative bid, Tractor Beam. The weakest part of Swarm Tactics is that you have to select the PS-buffed ship at the start of the combat phase, so Vader and Fel can just gang up on that one first, eliminate it, and make that Talent card a waste.

Still, this build sounds really fun, although I don't want to buy two more Scyks.

For your 24 point TPV's, you can have a Mangler cannon with a one point EPT of your choice. instead of one 4-dice shot and a bunch of suck after that, you can have three dice all day long* at range 1-3 and rolling 1 to a crit.

* until they get vaporized...could be a short day.

This.

The ordnance lover in me just got very sad at your unimpeachable math.

You're right; it's dumb, but man it looks like fun. Just seeing how long you could actually survive for would be hilarious.

PS advantage over Das Boot so you wouldn't have much of a problem obtaining Target Locks on other generics, just Aces... you know, I'd be tempted to say to hell with Deadeye and put Crackshot on them all instead, Go big or go home.

Four Sckyks List. Could it work?

Nope.

Stay turned for next week, in 'short answers to long questions', when we tackle the TIE Punishest...

Ironically I just faced a similar squad last week that was almost identical to this one.... but it had cheaper ordinance and Attanni Mindlinks on all the ships.

...but sadly I was running Carnor Jax, and I think he honestly got to spend just a single focus the entire game.

Granted this was just a really bad match-up for his list! But I thought I would toss it out there for you.

Nope.

See, it's that kind of negative, can't do Warpman attitude which is stagnating "the meta."

Could it work? Of course it could work!

I mean, you'd have to fly it perfectly. Think two turns ahead, predict every move, make every maneuver, dodge every arc, maximise every shot. But it could work.

You'd need luck too. Lots of luck. Especially with those fickle green dice that ficklegreendice likes to complain about. But it could work.

You'd have to hope you didn't run into Paul Heaver too, but it could work.

Yeah. It could work! I say go for it.

How about Mindlink for the EPT and Proton Rockets for ordinance? With the link you can focus-lock with 5 dice when you get that one good position...

And switch Serisu to tractor-Scyk and maybe VI to make it easier to get that good position for the TSVs :)

I've actually run something like that:

https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Scum%20and%20Villainy&d=v4!s!104:176:17:6:U.144;106:176:17:-1:U.110;106:176:17:-1:U.110;106:176:17:-1:U.110&sn=Unnamed%20Squadron

This was a fun list I ran once and beat a Kanan/Biggs list with.

The trick is one will focus and the other 3 will evade, so that with serissu, 3 have a focus and evade at the same time and serissu's reroll. The tractor beam also helps a lot in setting up good targets for the Mangler canons.

Scyks would be perfect candidates to be the first ship with to illicit slots. One for feedback array and one for Deadman's switch. They would do more damage blowing themselves up than they ever could with their primary.

Atanni Mindlink on them makes me think Scyks could actually be somewhat viable.

I'm just waiting until after Regionals to try out test builds.

I'm planning on running 3 x TPV w/manglers and a gand findsman w/title and 4LOM crew, all mindlinked, in our regional. I am finding it quite viable.

have come to the conclusion

Four Sckyks List. Could it work?

Nope.

I've run some builds with Sckyks and came to the conclusion that they should stay in my box for now.

Tie Punisher on the other hand, has been a good with Redline in a build I run with 3 Ties and a Shuttle.

So...maybe I will revisit the little ship at some point once I figure out how to run it with something else.

Makes me interested in flying 4x TPV + PtL + HScyk + PRockets + GChimps.

Because reasons.

For fun I ran this list in http://xws-bench.github.io/bench/ against 4 TLT Scum Y-Wings.

I lost, but it was a lot of fun. Those Scyks are fun to fly, I hope they fix them.

I've tried multiple ways to get four to work, it's always a lot of fun to fly, but sooner or later one pops....then it seems the others follow almost immediately. I've had games where that hang around and look like the game is going my way, then they one pops and it's like they are wired in series. They are like Pringles, once you pop you can't stop.

With the title you are better off sticking with a cannon. You can't build torpedoes like the Contracted scout.

I think seressue and TPV w/mindlink might be something to try.
