Why are They Fixing the Tie Defender and Not the T-65?

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

Good Lord! What more do you think they need? Integrated astromech was a solid but not hugely invasive fix. They need to be flown correctly, that's all.

I'll agree with that NeverBetTheFett, nicely played.

OK, I'll go "deep geek" now to support the argument that the T-65 is just fine as she is. Because, it is just as it needs to be.

If one wants to insure that the "old standby's" of the Star Wars Saga like the T-65 are up to snuff (as far as keeping up with the new Meta/Waves), then we shouldn't argue about the Defender getting some much needed love that it should'a gotten upon first release. Wanting the venerable T-65 to somehow approach/match a Defender seems to me to be illogical. If we're gonna be balanced on the review of the T-65 and where she sits, then what we should argue is the need to upgrade the T-65 with story-line believable upgrades like in a weapon or shielding....However, if this design upgrade hits the T-65, the balance (Saga-wise) should be something like an upgrade dial (more green and/or turning) for the base Tie Fighters so they can really meet the movie standard of "coming in too fast." Remember guys, the Tie Defender is supposed to be all that and then some, or why was it built by the Empire to be so much more than the Tie? Remember, the Rebels (Saga-wise), moved on with ships like the T-70 and the E-wing. Plus, as stated so eloquently above, that's why setting up and flying the strengths of each ship type regardless of the opposition is so fun and exasperating.

I'd hate to see them change the T-65, we love it for what it is. It's just the price that's hard to swallow.

I still think taking -1 point for an astromech. The X-Wing, thematically at least, should not be flown without one.

That still limits them to 4 in a 100 point squad and give them their discount too.
