Does New App Make Lieutenant Packs Redundant?

By chico2323, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Well so far the lieutenant packs are named lieutenant miniatures in the expansion selection screen.

However I can see the app spawning the "agent" and not the "lieutenant" version, so you need the agent card from the lieut. pack to see stats and how special abilities work (as the core/big/small boxes only come with the lieut cards).

I think it's pretty clear that plot decks won't be used in the app, just like all the other OL cards won't get used (they use moral/peril to simulate those kind of effects).

Was the "you need all the tabletop components" reffering to the cards of the Lieutenants (because you asked if you only need the minis so they could have meant the card with the stats on it), or to their plot decks and the OL cards?

Could mean either in my opinion.

I'm fairly sure they meant you'd need everything from the board game. The app will tell you which tiles to place, which monsters to place (including LTs), and any special "quest rules" for the room, much like the existing physical co-ops. The app will not tell you monster stats, will not give you virtual dice to roll, will not provide full text of existing cards in the physical game. At most, it might tell you to play "card X" and trust that you have the card in order to read it. So, as far as "faking" any particular expansion, you're in the same place you would normally be were you inclined to make pirate copies to use at the table.

That said, I agree that the app will almost certainly not use Plot cards or the regular OL decks. There's just too much contextual information that the app would have no reasonable way of knowing about the current state of the board and current actions of the players. (Unless FFG has licensed a copy of AlphaGo and put it in the app, that is! :P)

I wouldn't want some poorly made pirated stuff.

(I am buying everything which is translated to german.... I am even thinking about buying the stuff which is not translated to german in english.)

First of all, sorry I'm bringing a posibly dead post, but from what I read from the rules of Road to Legend, we can see that having a Lt pack will only be useful so the app spawns Agents into the quests.

From my experimentation with it, the app does monitor the collection in order to allow the spawning of agents into the quests, but the plot decks themselves appear to be completely unused :(

It would have been nice if select cards from the plot deck were triggered as random events at times... but alas!

This does allow people to possibly claim they have the pack while they only have the original lieutenant, but at least the Agent version is slightly different...
