My thought are assuming one does not care about the miniature model (which by the way is very nice) then can't a player simply enter into the upcoming app that they already own the lieutenant pack (just to give the AI player) whatever edge the pack was designed to provide?
Does New App Make Lieutenant Packs Redundant?
The Lieutenants packs might be redundant for the co-op's played with the app. That is, unless the co-op's in the app make use of the plot decks that come with the lieutenants.
But for the standard descent you will still use the plot decks
Thanks for the answers.
While I agree in theory you could proxy everything up to and including models, the way I see it is that the Lieutenant packs won't even need proxies. Given that the plot cards are for the AI Overlord, there doesn't really need to be a physical representation for these cards in real life.
This would be contrast to proxying a monster where you need to proxy the model.

I don't think the app will use OL cards or Plot decks. It would need to know when to trigger them or if it even CAN trigger them. The app has nothing to know which hero stands where on which tile... it doesn't even keep track of it's own monsters so it would almost be impossible to trigger some of the plot cards.
I think they will make it like in the "normal" co-op campaigns: Monsters get a random buff (as a proxy for OL-Cards) and activation commands for minions and master version and that's the OL in the campaign.
Although the AI-OL doesn't use the plot decks, they are not obsolete, because as a human OL they are still awesome to use. ![]()
This could be overcome by having to enter a proof of purchase code. Which reminds me that I accidentally threw out the one for my core game, so hopefully the app doesn't require that one:/
I really hope that is not the case, now you got me all worried. I don't have any of my proof of purchases anymore.

I don't think that's the case. And even if it was like that they would have a type of support... I mean if someone made a kind of key generator (and there are always people who make stuff like that) they would need another confirmation as your code could be taken from someone using a key generator.
Think about that:
What would happen if you want to install the app in steam, your handy and your IPad? If you can use one account for many devices, who controlls which device is really yours and would that really make sense?
Also, why would you want the app without having the product?
I think for a free app this kind of "security check" would be over the top and would not be something favored by a company like FFG.
Thanks for the answers.

That's odd, I honestly assumed it would use the OL deck etc AND track player movement
Doesnt look that way. Everything we've seen so far is just a digital version of the co-ops with some fluff like a shopping step and stuff.

And that is also a very legit analysis. That everything we are so hyped about is only a digital version of the co-ops. Nothing less, but maybe something more in variation because we have seen that we can select different expansions.

Also: the first mini campaign is for free! ![]()
I only hope that the App will use lieutenants and not only monsters
I think it will... but they get activated like monsters. The best part about it being an app is, the app tells you which monsters to set up, so you can have special activations for special monsters... Like telling you to make some activations which are not possible in the normal campaigns... like: Move the ettins to attack range and attack the closest hero and then perform the "Throw" ability on him or something.
That would work for the Lieutenants too of course. ![]()
Also things like: Belthir get's +10 Health in this mission or something...
Or stuff like the App tells you how to activate some monsters which don't treat monsters or heros different. (like attacking whoever get's on the map tile they are on and the closest if there's more than one
Keep in mind, that's just a guess from me. ![]()
Also notice that on the trailer you can see they mention that owning physical expansion will give you access to new travel, peril and side quests for the app campaigns. I'd bet there is a good chance that owning lieutenant packs will give you access to some extra in-app goodies too.

Just a speculation, they can , for example, show a command for a specific card from a plot deck to come in play (withou showing the text) or some sort of mechanic using threat tokens ...

That would be possible... but I don't think it's what they will do. I mean think about it: How do they check if you got the corresponding expansion? (You could also just look the text of the cards up on the internet too...)
I ordered most of the Lieutenenats packs and got some of them already. I can't think of a "good way" to include all of them... It would not make sense IMO, if the app would only be compatible with some of the Plot decks, or with just a tiny amount of cards for each deck.
(like for example Zachareths plot deck.... I mean the app probably doesn't use OL cards, so most of his cards would be useless...)
But we will see... maybe they did something which I was not able to think off. I mean, they invent rules and stuff and solutions for such problems as a job... ![]()
Yep, I also think it will not be possible to use the plot decks similarly. Most cards have specific condictions to activate, and the majority will be useless with the app. Most likely we see some side quests featuring lieutenants or some sort of random encounter (summon agent equivalent).
Edited by kraistoSnippet of Facebook convo I had w/FFG
so the App will use the cards from lieutenants? I thought by the screenshot where it says Lieutenant miniatures I'd only need the minis.
FFG: You need all the tabletop components.

Need the cards (same as monsters). The app dont show with dices you need to roll for attack or defend, or how surges / abilities works. Still a question if plot decks will be used.

Was the "you need all the tabletop components" reffering to the cards of the Lieutenants (because you asked if you only need the minis so they could have meant the card with the stats on it), or to their plot decks and the OL cards?
Could mean either in my opinion.

yes it was, i purchased 4 minis in different languages overseas so i was asking if i needed all cards in english

If you intended to use the plot decks then yeah having them in English would really help. To be honest from what I have seen of the app it is just a digital form of the coop pack cards. I don't know how much it will tell you to how to specifically play the monsters.
No it seems pretty clear the app will handle monster activation.
I don't have the pic but I saw one that was an example of an activation, just like some of the cards it says what the minion/master actions will be in a turn and if some special effect happens when said monster is activated (this is how the PoD Co-ops simulated the Overlord Deck).
You may get an activation that says for example:
All Minion Kobolds gain Surge: Poison
*And a list of possible actions: Engage the Hero with the most monsters adjacent to it
Attack an adjacent Hero with the most Monster adjacent to it
Engage Closest Hero
Attack an Adjacent Hero
*4 possible actions, still the same rules, monsters can preform up to 2 actions per turn, 2 can be movement, only 1 can be an attack, unlesss... OL card says otherwise so we get things like...
Crypt Dragons gain one extra attack action this turn
and probably special activation that create synergy with a monster group's abilities like:
All Sorcerers gain + 3 Range this turn
Sometimes on the PoD we also get that if you're unlucky to draw that card while a certain exploration card is still in play they get even nastier bonuses that will interfere with the room's objective.
I like how FFG has handled monster groups activation in the 3 co-ops released so far. It seems to me this app is taking the core concept and expanding on it. Now we are going to get events that happen when you perform search actions and possibly open doors. Traps, Hidden Treasure... sounding more and more like a good old fashioned Hero Quest Dungeon Crawl to me.
I do not think the app will track monster and hero movement on a grid. But I do think we will be able to tell it once a figure has been defeated. And it will keep track of your progress in the sense of going from room to room, unlocking a new piece of the dungeon.
I wanna know more about the campaign phase, how the tracking of weeks will affect travel, shopping, and where the next quest is. I've never played D1st Ed, but I've heard the Road to Legend expansion had something similar to this, is that correct?
Edited by LuijodI have to admit I am following my father's advice; Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
By that I mean, I have lots of hope for where this app could go. But I know my hopes need to be tempered to reasonable expectations. I expect this first version might not do everything I want it to do. So by limiting my expectations, I believe I will be happy with what ever they can do in the new App. ![]()

I'm fairly sure they meant you'd need everything from the board game. The app will tell you which tiles to place, which monsters to place (including LTs), and any special "quest rules" for the room, much like the existing physical co-ops. The app will not tell you monster stats, will not give you virtual dice to roll, will not provide full text of existing cards in the physical game. At most, it might tell you to play "card X" and trust that you have the card in order to read it. So, as far as "faking" any particular expansion, you're in the same place you would normally be were you inclined to make pirate copies to use at the table.
That said, I agree that the app will almost certainly not use Plot cards or the regular OL decks. There's just too much contextual information that the app would have no reasonable way of knowing about the current state of the board and current actions of the players. (Unless FFG has licensed a copy of AlphaGo and put it in the app, that is!
)
