So, about the Squadron Benchmark site....

By Jturn314, in X-Wing

well you see jimmy......back before the x-wing benchmark....people use to spend time doing things like......working at jobs....or....visiting loved ones.

we call that the dark ages....

but NOW....society has evolved. ... and all...we....need....is.......x-wing......

Looks like Dengar works, but if K7 does I can't seem to work out how to trigger him.

This is going to be fantastic for testing squads - even a rudimentary AI is enough when what you're really worried about is thinking through how ships move & interact.

Kiiiinda think the guy needs to strip some of the art or something... it's gorgeous, though.

Good program. But much like Vassal I won't be using it because I can't judge distances on it. It's impossible to tell where my ships will end up.

As everyone has said its a bit buggy (Thanks Kallus for changing ALL!! my eyes to hits) but that's why you can change the dice back.

Its a great way to get the opening moves up to scratch and try out a few lists. The AI isn't too bad, I find its moves are pretty good but its upgrade use can be a bit off.

Hundreds of people are able to judge distances on vassal. It's a matter of habit, just like anything in life. It's true that the top down, isometric view can shock people at first, but it forces you to develop a sense of judgment based on the relative length of a ship base, which in turn, helps you reinforce how you deal with X-Wing on a real tabletop.

Aaaaand there goes all productivity for the day.

I've actually written the address down and have it on a business card in my wallet so I can get to it from the computers at work without bookmarking it.

After giving this some more time, I'm not sure many of the upgrades work appropriately. Chopper crew never gave me an option to do an action while stressed for one. Also, does anyone know how the TLs work? It always rerolls all the dice for me, or at least all the non-hits, even if I want to save focus. Or at least it feels like it does.

I didn't try to use a target lock to reroll. I used it to fire ordnance, which worked fine. I noticed that the AI used crackshot as -1 agility. It didn't wait to compare results. Howlrunner's reroll, guidance chips, and the concussion missile dice mod all worked fine.

The biggest problem I had was messing up the attack phase by clicking on the firing unit a second time instead of a target unit. The attack phase is basically over at that point.

One bug I saw was an AI ship move during the planning phase. Then when I ended the planning phase it jumped back.

What I do for TL, if I also have a focus token, is click on the eyes to change them to hits, use the TL to get it to reroll the blanks, then click on my focus to spend the focus.

Running on internet explorer 11 today, and after I planned my moves, it wouldn't let me continue. It's like it waited for me to plot my maneuver again, but wouldn't give me a button to continue.

With a target lock it seems to reroll all the dice including hits, which frequently makes results worse. Otherwise it seems great.

Once they fix the AI, I'd be all over this. I eagerly await the Heaver vs TrueBlue matchup.

Have you tried a good browser?

Much better than Vassal, in my opinion; now it just needs to evolve to accommodate two players interfacing remotely through it, so that we can all benefit from the ease of use while playing imaginative, human opponents.

I like it, it has a lot of promise, but as folks have stated; it needs a few tweaks. I've noticed that very large ships like Ghost can make it impossible to klick on a ship in base-to-base, and thus forcing you to skip the combat. Wish you could select your target from the sidebar in such scenarios.

The AI is very simple, and not that bright a player, yesterday Xizor chased Ten Numb for 3 turns without Ten doing anything but a 2 straight...

That said, it's a great little game.

It does indeed need a few little tweaks with upgrades and abilities here and there, and i would also recommend to enable people to undo moves and actions.

It would be very cool to make it playable in more browsers too. At the moment it seems to work with Edge and Explorer only. A friend of mine has a Mac and cant get it to run with any browser he can get.

Other than that it's a ton of fun and awesome work!!! Better than Vassal because more user-friendly!

The AI is pretty dreadful if you pack it with upgrades. If you are looking for at least SOMEWHAT of a challenge, I'd make sure the AI is using ships with little to no upgrades so it can manage it easily. I gave it Uboats to play with and I don't think it fired off a single torp lol.

Yep had some problem.

I play it in Chrome, Firefox and Maxthon. Did not bother to test in other browsers.

First. Its already amazing. Like amazing. But like any good tool, there some places it needs some help. But easily forgivable. The AI for the most part works.

It won't work in Firefox for me, and my friend says ot does not work in Chrome... Any tips?

It works in chrome for me.

I've noticed that I can't use Vessereys ability if he has another target locked. If he has no target lock it works fine.

I use chrome it works fine.

So far I'm a very happy camper, even got beat once by AI.

Amazing work, would probably pay $50 to use this if it was available commercially. With it being free, I've no right to complain, so treat this as optional feedback - some slight bug spotting is needed vis a vis pilot abilites.

The small mistakes I noted are:

- Omega Leader's evade token does not disappear when used for defense

- Phantoms sometimes lose ability to cloak after they are stressed and clear the stress

I've only used this a few times and as most people have said its a little buggy but its great for a quick X-Wing fix.... at work

Errors I've found are;

PTL - cant figure it out??

Juke - cant trigger without manually changing dice...

Otherwise great app!!!
