Question about some Sourcebooks

By Hoda25, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey guys I'm debating between purchasing Lords of Nal Hutta, Keeping the Peace, or Nexus of Power.

I will be getting two out of the three and I would like recommendations about which two books would be worth getting first.

Depends on what you need or are looking for.

  • Keeping the Peace is a pretty good overall book, but it is the Guardian Sourcebook, so if you don't have anybody who'd be interested in that then you'd probably won't want it. Armor crafting is nice, though. Pretty good gear section, and it has the VCX-100 (the Ghost's model).
  • Lords of Nal Hutta is pretty much a lore book, and it condenses much of the details from Star Wars on Hutt Space. It's a good inspiration for some, but if you don't plan to include the Hutt Cartel or Hutt Space, it might not be worth it.
  • Nexus of Power is also a lore book, but it covers stuff that has a lot to do with the Force; certainly can be used by all three game, but again, it depends on what your plans are. The gear section is slimmer than the other two, so if you just want player options, you can probably pass.

Are you a GM or a player? What kind of games do you run or play in? A single RPG line or a mixture of all of them?

I'm mostly a player but I GM from time to time. Our main focus is Edge of the Empire but our missions dip into the other two lines.

My GM missions often involve Tech procurement and exploring planets to find valuable artifacts. One player is heavily involved in the Force Sensitive Exile tree, and is debating which Force and Destiny specialization to pick. A second player just decided to take the Force Sensitive Emergent talent tree.

Keeping the Peace for sure. It's more player-oriented and the third chapter could help you out for story inspiration if/when you GM.

I would also say Lords of Nal Hutta. If mostly because your current game is primarily EotE, and Ganks.

Yeah I was definitely thinking Lords of Nal Hutta because one player in the group is wants to become a cyborg type character too.

And Guardian is my favorite Force and Destiny career.

I've got all three. Personally I'd say 1. The Hutt book 2. Keepers 3. Nexus.

Now here's a guy who hasn't been Jedi Mind Tricked into buying all the books when immediately available, just because,,,,, ****, I wish I had his willpower :)

Haha ExpandingUniverse I just bought six books last week. I can only probably buy two or three more books before I start saving for the next wave of books.

I've heard good things about Special Modifications and that book would be great for my player who wants to become a cyborg!!

GET IT!...imo the price alone is worth it for the droid crafting section/crafting chapter - which could also be used for generating the personality of a generic droid too... rather like quirks for fleshbags in D20

Don't buy pizza and beer all week long and get all three. Problem solved.

I think Lords of Nal Hutta is one of the best books in the line thus far...

I agree. It just really goes hand in hand with EoE CRB. It evokes the Han Solo feel and the modular encounters are top notch.

I'd probably say Lords of Nal Hutta and Keeping the Peace. They're all good, but if you're a more EotE focused game then Nexus of Power can probably wait. The armor creation rules in Keeping the Peace are really useful for all the game lines however.

Another vote for Lords of Nal Hutta. Loads of great information. It also has some of my favorite published modular encounters. My campaign is currently AoR, but we started out as EotE. During that time, Lords of Nal Hutta helped set the tone.

Like others have said, these books all scratch different itches you might have so a lot depends on where in your campaign you are or where you want to take it!

For me, the source books that go into locations are invaluable so I'd say Lords of Nal Hutta given your Edge of the Empire focus. If you're into F&D and want to tackle some Jedi lore, then Nexus is awesome for that.

To be fair ... you know you're going to get all three anyway...

Does anyone know what the Gank stats and special abilities are gameplay wise?

ETA: I will tell you, in general terms, their main bonus is that they come with up to 2 free cybernetic enhancements to start, within a credit budget, and have the capacity to add a lot more. For any more detail buy the book. :)

Having all of them, i'd vote lords of nal Hutt (awesome in all ways) and keeping the peace (the armor crafting rules in it make it a must buy in my opinion, at least until no disintegrations is released which I expect will reprint them), keeping the peace also has other nifty gear such as the energy buckler, nexus of power is a gm book mostly, and unless you have at least one force sensitive PC and the force is a big theme in your campaign, then you probably aren't going to get much use out of it, the is a bunch of unique (one in the galaxy) uber gear which I would be afraid to let jedi players get their hands on, and coming from me that says something (for example an Uber lightsaber that ignores the cortosis quality)
