Precisely
Funny that this thread existed. IMO, the MC80 is super good. Always had success with it.
Lol. But does the MC80 still suck? :-b
I always tried to put this into papper but I feared so much the hate and negative feedback. You did a master work thanks for that.
It is exactly what I think about this ship, I played it twice then left it over for the AFM2, for the task it is meant to perform an AFM is just way better balanced in points. There is virtually no reason why anyone should take an MC80 over an AFM2, besides esthetical reasons.

I respectfully disagree. Just use the assault variant with ECM and AP and ackbar, and spam engineering commands. Other ships will die much sooner than the doom cucumber.
If you go command variant, just make sure that you can regenerate some shields every turn so it survives a bit longer. It's IMO one of the best ship in the game.

I can do exactly the same with AFM saving 40 fleet points cost. ECM ackbar PLUS GT <-(only this makes AFM 10 times better) spam engineering commands and spit 5 dices every turn, 6 with EA up to 2 different targets. Survivavility is almost the same, 2 hull points is not going to make any difference, that speed 3 and mediumd size ship can actually bring you out of trouble in a more reliable way.
Mc80 is overpriced and overrated.

Home One makes all your other ships shine though, and the AF can't do that.
Shine? you mean free accuracies? There are like 3 cheaper ways in the game to grant accuracies. If shine means something else then I belive I am lost. Its just a piece of space junk full of points and ready to blow.

I dislike the MC80 as well. I've never liked it and it's stats are just a little better than the AF for 30sum more points.
However, Ackbar80s won 3 regional tournaments. No AF placed top 4. MC80 certainly has a place in the meta, and I'll be surprised if at least 1 MC80 list does not make top 8 at worlds, if not top 4.
in my last non-ackbar use of the MC80, I fitted it with Ion Cannon batteries and Engine tech. It flew past an ISD-2 before it could get a decent medium range shot from its front arc and a blue crit prevented it from going faster. Even without ackbar, the ISD was dead after 4 turns.
I'm a big fan of the MC80, easy access to burst squad activation allowing you to pick boosted comms.
With some of the titles one has to put extra thought in what they actually give you.
Home One frees up your turbolaser slot to buy XI7 or more dice.
Even with FFG coming in on my side of the Indy+AFFM combo I think what prevents a build from coming about is lists getting too expensive too fast. What I'm currently threoycrafting with indy is its use as a Stratigic pusher to steal battlefield objective tokens.

To be fair, the analysis in OP was before wave 3/4. The large ship game as a whole has experienced nice buffs.
I have no idea why this thread was dug up.

Yea I saw the date of the OP and I fully agree with the assessment. But that's a matter of opinion now since people are winning with MC80s. Flotillas really brought this ship back. I still don't like the ship because to make it good you need to abuse activations to Defiance works. And then you toss an extra 4 dice (Ackbar+Deciance+CF) on top of the 4 reds you start with. It's a great way to win but it games the mechanics too much IMO.
And here I remember the days when @Armada Jim trounced my Dodonna the Oppressor list with Rieekan and a Cucumber...
Oh the forms those days. Armada was dead and dying some said, Dodonna was a useless Commander others said... How I lived to prove them wrong... Such fun.
When I play the MC80 Liberty well, it is the master of the gaming mat.
When I play the MC80 Liberty bad, it is the sucker of the gaming mat.
The MC80 Home one type is much more forgiving than the Liberty to play with IMHO, the speed two is not an issue for me, as I usually want only to engage with it from turn 4, meaning it can pick up tokens before it is engaged.
My MC80 usually at the end of turn 6, if it has been shot at, at all, trots away with +1 life left, no shields and a frustrated opponent left in its wake. ![]()
MC80 is one of the most versatile ships. It really can be tailored to almost any role.
An Ackbar MC80 Assault christmas tree is lethal, a personal favourite ![]()
I dont get ship-hating in general, like so much it really is a personal preference/ what-works-for-the-individual thing.
Edited by GammonLord@Ginkapo... what are you doing bringing this back from the dead?

I was scouring the forum for old threads that need preserving on my new blog. And for reasons that I wont explain to those who arent already aware, this really irked me. Not the content itself, something else.
Gotta love that vaguebooking.

What is the source of the irking? And more importantly, you got a link for your blog? ![]()

This is awesome, really well put together.
I love your soft opening ![]()
Oh look, another matter in which I vehemently disagree with Reinholt... did he ever have anything good to say about the game? Might be better off without the negativity...
The MC80 assault is hands down my favorite large base ship, and my second favorite Rebel ship (MC30 squeaks out a narrow win, those Admonition delivered black dice are just too tasty)

Feels like you could have disagreed without being a ****.
