Hot Take: Ginkapo Shouldn't Be Engaging In Thread Necromancy

By Reinholt, in Star Wars: Armada

Yey! more anecdotal arguments!

I've won store champs and tournaments and placed highly with a hybrid fireball list. This must mean something something something

I guess I'll just say it again! Run MC80s all you like, If they work in your meta, good for you! Keep running them! Doesn't change the numbers or make them any less of a lumbering pig of a point sink that won't have every decent rhymerball and DeMSU pusher licking their chops.

Yeah, VSDs have great efficiency, and thanks for making that point, because while they have better efficiency than the MC80, they suffer from a very similar lumbering pig syndrome. So in summary, VSDs are better than MC80s and they are still not good enough to take LMAO QED

On top of that the VSDs (which again, most people don't bother with anymore) cost significantly less points and are therefore much less attractive targets as the plod along while b wings pass them

Oh right, the VSD. I didn't know they were capable of handing out free accuracies and deliver game-changing broadsides with ridiculous maneuvers typically not possible from large ships thanks to Engine Techs. They are also considered the flagship to a number of Rebel fleet archetypes, as well as being either being a heavier squadron support vessel, or straight up battleship. If you're looking at them as purely a one-sided ship and trying to compare their damage capabilities, you're looking at it completely wrong. There are certain times in every single game where there will be an opportunity for you to "slash", made easier with Engine Techs and the right planning. When in doubt, always spam navs to setup amazing shots from ridiculous angles. Not being able to see these angles, or these opportunities, is strictly the player's fault, and not the ship.

In summary, I would start looking inwards to yourself as a player, as it's clear myself and other people in this thread have had success with this PoS pointsink.

You can follow the slow progression of my tournament list above here:

And for what Biggs said earlier, yes, Leading Shots makes the world go round.

OK, that's enough Armada for me again for a little bit. I'm going to crawl back into my BFG:A cave and patiently await Total War: Warhammer. Sorry folks, that's where most of my energy has been.

So I brought an MC80 to the Pittsburgh Regional.

1st place overall.

Just another anecdote posted from my phone.

I don't mean to change the subject, but I am curious about the regional analysis above. Several of the builds ran at least one AFM and Yavaris, with different varieties of other ships, and I'd assume squadrons. What were some of those squadron compositions?

Only looking at top half, and not all of those because it's late:

Looking at Rebels, I saw a lot of aces- everybody except Han showed up at least once (Jan 3, Tycho 2, Dash2) Generics: 3As showed up twice, 3YT24s once. Pairs of As, Xs, & Bs, and one H6.

Imps: All aces except Howl. Vader showed up 6 times, unless I am counting admiral vader's by mistake. Dengar, IG, Rhymer were all popular as well, showing up 3x each. Tie-Bombers came in groups of 8, 7, 3. Firesprays came in 4, 3, 3, TIE-Adv came in pairs 3 times, and single once. One generic Jumpmaster, Generic Tie's came in a six-pack & a pair.

In addition to such a wide representation of fighter types, I'd say there were a wide variety of squadron group compositions. Anything from 2 a-wings to serve as a speed bump to 8 Bombers with only enough escort to deal with said speed bump. There were a decent number of bomber wings without Rhymer, which surprised me.

Very fascinating, thanks.

The double standard. Man what am I to do with all this data. I don't even have to be Nate Silver at a statistical machine company to expose the hypocrosy here. Can they make it any easier on me? I get banned for making a mere slight reference to a political comment a while back and others like this here can get away with murder on this forum. Clearly, Fantasy Flight again shows its bias against those who critize them and everyone else (fan boys) gets a free pass. They were asked to comment on why they where banning me for life next time I didn't goose step and they failed to comment. Look for a new article soon in a major board gaming blog--11th in the world--about FF's failure to communicate with their fan base and how they take for granted that we our their sales force in these uncertain times for the future of the game. The statistics collected thus far flush out with a 5% realizability that the game is in free fall since the recent wave III announcement. Interest in the game is not only waning severely, but retails are abandoning the game almost en mass to create more precious shelf space. Money is the only thing we are haggling over now for the piece to continue (expect in fall), but it is clear the forum moderators working for FF also have an agenda of shutting up anyone that isn't a fan boy. I have been collecting hard data for months that will show the bias toward fan boy comments and how they attempt to To quickly silence critics. Obviously, the most important part of the piece is the huge drop in sales and interest through the nation and world regarding Armada.

I'm not really sure there's anything to be gained from this thread any more now that it's devolved down to "Hastatior calls people names and assumes that impresses people."

You use MC80s? They're bad. They're so bad. I've seen people using MC80s for months now and even though they're worthless, this FFG administration keeps pushing them on regular folks. It's sad. If you use them, you're a sad man. A real low-energy loser. A chump!2015-08-27T230037Z_1_LYNXNPEB7Q15Y_RTROP

I don't understand what this administration has against Assault Frigates! Assault Frigates are what made our country great. Assault Frigates are the best. They really are. We've got all these amazing Assault Frigate plans right now, you don't even know.

I'm really considering reporting you myself. And I'm no FFG business fan.

I step out of line one more time after only 2 warnings and I am banned for life. How about them apples? Probably, get banned for talking about getting banned. Lol. V

The thing is Hastatior is actually making some decent points, although they're buried under derision. Let's translate from "Hastatior" into "someone not trying to antagonize you into punching him." Hold on, it's going to be a wild ride.

Yey! more anecdotal arguments!

"Without knowing much about your meta it can be difficult to ascertain which anecdotal stories about MC80s we see here are from players ahead of the curve or just a list that wins against mediocre opposition. You'll have to forgive my skepticism but any more data you can provide about your meta or those events would help."

I've won store champs and tournaments and placed highly with a hybrid fireball list. This must mean something something something

"I too have won events so therefore I'm not really convinced by that alone. Please forgive me for my mocking tone at the end, sometimes I get stock in Donald Trump mode."

I guess I'll just say it again! Run MC80s all you like, If they work in your meta, good for you! Keep running them!

"I am, however, interested in hearing more about what kind of configuration you use them in and how they work around the problems I've identified. I don't want to indicate that anyone should feel bad about using them, I just can't find a spot for them in a competitive list right now."

Doesn't change the numbers or make them any less of a lumbering pig of a point sink that won't have every decent rhymerball and DeMSU pusher licking their chops.

"I'm sorry, the Trump haze descended upon me again and I spoke in belittling hyperbole that doesn't really convince anyone or assist our dialogue and seems to primarily antagonize people. I get very caught up in arguing sometimes and forget that the point of a discussion from different positions is to convince people and be open to being convinced in turn rather than just belittling my opponents. Please accept my apologies, that was unnecessary."

"You are correct that VSDs are very cost-effective for their points with the exception of their poor speed and maneuverability. You may notice few reported VSDs in top tier tournament lists right now and in my opinion it would seem to be for similar reasons. Good stats alone are difficult to leverage properly if they are on a chassis that has trouble bringing them to bear."

On top of that the VSDs (which again, most people don't bother with anymore) cost significantly less points and are therefore much less attractive targets as the plod along while b wings pass them

"My own opinion is that VSDs are actually better than MC80s because the VSD at least costs less points for an activation and if it finds itself out of position it comes with less opportunity cost than a similarly-disadvantaged MC80."

Lol?

Oh come one, AdmiralN, don't stop now! I was just getting a good belly laugh going!

Admiral Nelson:

I'm not trolling you, but...what are you even talking about as it pertains to your comments in this thread. Seriously, I don't understand your connection. They were talking about the MC80 being bad/not bad, anecdotal claims, and then you switched it to the failure of Armada and the hypocrisy of forum bans based on non-fanoi-ism.

The MC-80 trumps all aspects of faboyism! The Space Pickle defeats all!!!

I think his point was he said he got banned for referencing politics, and other people posted Donald Trump gifs and didn't get banned. I think? Who knows.

On the MC80 related front, I have started making myself use it, and funny enough it DOES make a very good objective ship for Intel Sweep!

I saw Admiral Nelson quoted two of my posts and figured here comes drama.

Yes, I made fun of Hastatior. I tried not to be very harsh with it, just a bit silly, and Mr. Trump has a very... unique... speaking style that's easy to parody when you're trying to convey "hey guy perhaps you're being a bit too hyperbolic and ad hominem; why don't you calm down a bit and we can all just talk it out even if we disagree?" If you can't see a meaningful difference between that kind of silliness and the more extreme things the esteemed Admiral has written, I... just don't know what to tell you.

I mean the real reason is I'm in on the secret Reptilian Illuminati plot to dominate the world through chemtrails and lackluster wave 3 Armada releases. With our army of unthinking fanboys, only AdmiralNelson stands in our way!

Anyone have more popcorn, I ran out.

On a serious note. The MC80 seems to have a good uptick in popularity with regionals so it can't be all bad.

Up close I just realized how derpy Bossk's eyes look. Very interesting...

Well, he is driving a Space-Truck. I mean, it even LOOKS like a Truck. A YT-1300 is a Space Truck Too, but at least it doens't look like one...

I mean, Come on.

He's Bossk.

He's got Places to Be, People to Eat....

At least this isn't the Rey as PS8 debate in X-Wing.

On a serious note, there were quite a few MC-80s at the Stele Open.
