Yeah you are right, compared to the x-wing, both of them just seem a bit of scale.

I don't believe that it is an A-Wing. If you look carefully at the pics shown so far in this thread, the profile is a bit narrower and the cockpit is recessed a bit back. It kind of looks like a cross between an A-wing (proper) and a Jedi delta-7. Also there may be CGI to be added to the back of the craft for engines and possibly a droid socket.

To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with getting the old ships redone. The Original Trilogy ships are iconic, and if it means we get more incredible shots of them in action like we did for the X-Wing in The Force Awakens, so much the better.

I'd much rather the iconic designs were slightly modified or updated and given more screen time than see all new ships turn up just for the sake of it. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I'd much rather get something new and creative so I actually have something new to play with instead of the same ship I've been playing with for 30 freaking years.

Just like all of the movies that are just remakes, not really many "new" or "unique" movies made anymore, they are just re-doing classic ships...

The Resistance is really small in TFA, X-Wings were basically all they had.

I wouldn't be surprised if remnants of the Republic Fleet now join the Resistance. Especially as most, if not all, of the power structure is gone. Rallying around a set of victorious leaders, who've defeated an evil empire before would seem the logical thing to do.

It's strange they are putting A-wings in so soon, according to my calculations the only new ships in Episode VIII should be TIE Bomber repaint and T-57 Airspeeder.

As far as the movies are concerned, I'm totally fine with re-imagining the ships from the original trilogy.

X-wing the Miniatures game wise... Not sure how I feel about having version old and version new of every ship from the original trilogy...

As said before, once there are enough ships (if ever?) from the TFA and later era, FFG might split X-wing that you no longer can field Rebel and Resistance resp. Empire and F/O together.

I said "might": probably you can sell moar ships by not splitting and allowing all kind of inconsistent pairings. Some die-hards might stop buying and refusing to play too much of a style/timeline-mix, though - but compared to the larger picture probably not that much of a money-loss.

People who think Rogue One is going to be about Rogue Squadron are probably going to be very disapppointed because that doesn't appear to be what the movie is about at all. All indications point to a heist movie/maybe "Dirty Dozen" type war movie. Nothing seems to point to large amounts of space combat in the film.

Yes.... Thanks for that. Unless you'd been living under a rock or on an island without Internet; this is something the whole world knew last year when the film first went into production. It was further confirmed only earlier this month with the release of the trailer.

Maybe with the republic fleet destroyed, the resistance has to take the old stuff out of mothballs? That would be cool, but I would love actual NEW ships, not just old ones and not 3 movies worth of redone OT ships, since that will make the game a little stale...

Completely agreed, with the caveat that they don't just copy/paste Imperial fighters as needed. As cool as an Interceptor looks with the black & white paint scheme, I would want them to give it the TIE/fo or TIE/sf treatment and make it substantially different from a mechanical perspective (shields, hyperdrive, ordnance, gunner seat, etc etc)

Issue 1 of the Poe Dameron comic has an A-Wing flying in formation in one of the panels. I think that issue is roughly 1 year before TFA, so it would make sense that there are a few flying around during Ep8.

It would be great to see the A-Wings back in the films, they use to be my favourite. Wish they could of had other ships alongside the X-wings in episode 8, it has been 40 years after all, where are the newer A and B wings. Also the E-wings (now my fave) since they were to be the X-wings replacements and were in common service by this stage in the EU. It was mentioned somewhere that the Resistant were making do with old X-wings so maybe if we see a Republic fleet they will be more varied.
