Possible New EP VIII Rebel Ship Revealed! Kinda!

By Tsiegtiez, in X-Wing

BTL-B, S3 and A4 are all variant models of the same basic Y-wings. Once you strip away the armor plating the only difference is the cockpit and turret armament. Han Solo in the ANH radio drama even says the ships are 20 years old. Sounds like the rebels got ahold of Y-wings that the empire didn't want or need anymore and converted them to single crew configuration, or the republic/empire had commissioned single seat variants and then dumped them in favor of TIEs.

So the turret, weapons, engines are completely different, the cockpit is significantly "modified", we have no idea about the internal stuff... As I said, the difference is way bigger than between T-65 and T-70.

Thing is, the Clone Wars Y-Wings ARE the same ones seen in ANH. Just heavily modified and refitted.Check the lines on that bad-boy, you can see which bits were split off by The Rebellion.

Canon would say otherwise.

Several models of the Y-wing starfighter were used throughout the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War. The first known models used by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. Unlike its successor designs, this early model had a bubble-turret, which swivelled 360 degrees, provided a clear view for the gunner of the surrounding space. The ship was designed to operate mainly as a bomber and the Republic used them well in this capacity.[12] The later BTL-A4 Y-wing model was a variant utilized by both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and New Republic during the Galactic Civil War.[13] A single-seat tactical strike spacecraft, this model lacked the gunner's position of earlier models. The BTL-A4 fighters used by the Alliance had also been modified, with their hull and nacelle plating removed to increase ease of maintenance on the aging craft.[6] This modified BTL-A4 variant saw action in the Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Endor, suffering heavy losses in both engagements.

Cockpit is larger compared to the fins as well. Smaller ship overall maybe. Or just smaller fins.

I was thinking the same thing if it is a new ship. Like a smaller A-Wing

Based on the wider shot, it looks like it is a fusion of the A-wing and V-wing. The nose is narrower than the A-wing, but still about the same width. Maybe a bit longer.

So, I was a bit behind on my comics and just read Poe #1 the other day, after having seen this thread. And there's an A-wing in the comic that looks pretty much exactly like this. Putting it in a spoiler tag for anyone who's not read it yet (image doesn't really give much away, but better safe than sorry).

I havent read the comic, but I'm surprised no one on here has mentioned that! thanks!

I'm assuming that is the A-wing he flew in the Rebellion. See: Shattered Empire.

Still kind of bummed that Poe wasn't conceived on Endor...
