Possible New EP VIII Rebel Ship Revealed! Kinda!

By Tsiegtiez, in X-Wing

Definitely some assumption happening here but it certainly looks like an A-Wing, and with luck won't just be a coincidental one-off ship.

Cool.

Good catch!

Looks like the cockpit doesn't have the back section.

Or it could be an incomplete model.

But what if we, like, switched the colours. That would be totally New Republic!

Edit: sarcasm aside I love the classic designs that were updated for TFA, and I'm thrilled they seem to be doing that further with VIII.

Granted the shot only shows like 15-20% of the ship, but it definitely looks like an a-wing, it also seems like the cockpit is more flush with the rear of the ship than the "old" one Not a ton of differences, though (not even as many as between the T-70 and T-65 from what we can see so far).

Maybe with the republic fleet destroyed, the resistance has to take the old stuff out of mothballs? That would be cool, but I would love actual NEW ships, not just old ones and not 3 movies worth of redone OT ships, since that will make the game a little stale...

I was just about to mention it could be incomplete. Or if it moves/slides at all they could be waiting to CG it in post.

It definitely has a reversed paint scheme.

What is it about Star Wars and people who don't know who their real fathers are?

Is that prince Harry? He served in Afghanistan so I guess he qualifies. Is he a pilot or crew? What's his ability?

Man I almost made it to episode 8 without purposefully looking at spoilers. So close only broke my promise by like 17 months!

What's with everything being twitter today. Can't see it when working here at Imperial Center.

Its the (A-) Wing - lol.

I'm guessing it's a model used for shooting in-cockpit scenes with the camera directly in front of the pilot. In that case, they don't actually need to build the ship directly behind the cockpit, as it is obscured during filming.

Ah sorry about that. Is imgur blocked?

Cockpit is larger compared to the fins as well. Smaller ship overall maybe. Or just smaller fins.

But even then, the stabilizer bits come much further forward on this one than on the original. There are definitely differences, even if they are slight or subtle.

To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with getting the old ships redone. The Original Trilogy ships are iconic, and if it means we get more incredible shots of them in action like we did for the X-Wing in The Force Awakens, so much the better.

I'd much rather the iconic designs were slightly modified or updated and given more screen time than see all new ships turn up just for the sake of it. No need to reinvent the wheel.

A-wings with white talon rolls, calling it now.

Completely agreed, with the caveat that they don't just copy/paste Imperial fighters as needed. As cool as an Interceptor looks with the black & white paint scheme, I would want them to give it the TIE/fo or TIE/sf treatment and make it substantially different from a mechanical perspective (shields, hyperdrive, ordnance, gunner seat, etc etc)

Especially when the wheel helped kill 2/2 Death Stars and 1/1 Starkillers.

No wonder they still use giant triangle ships.

The fins are definitely different from the classic A-wing. Look at the fins; how far the first rise comes up compared to the back end of the fin. The ratio of the first part to the rear is much different; the new A-wing has a much shorter fin.
