New First Order ship???

By xjettx, in X-Wing

...I looked at the picture and I thought we were talking about Stormtroopers with jetpacks at first.

I got excited.

I think a lot of folks are over-estimating how many ships we can expect to add based on the new movies. OT, didn't necessarily overflow with ships either. Empire added the Tie Bomber and Slave 1 and that's it so far as I can remember.

Off the top of my head, feel free to kick me if I forgot anything:

ANH:

Rebels: XWing, YWing, Falcon, Blockade Runner.

Imps: tie, tie adv. (Sentinel Landing craft)

Scum:?

ESB:

Rebels: transport.

Imps: t-bomber, Slave 1.

Scum: Well it introduced a load of pilots/crew but not much in the way of ships beyond the Slave.

ROTJ:

Rebs: Awing, Bwing,

Imps: TInterceptor, Lambda,

Scum: nope.

Rebels:

Rebs: Ghost, Phantom, (b prototype) (shadow caster)

Imps: TAP, Gozanti, (sentinel class variant)

Scum:? (Gozanti variants, mandolorian fighters, civilian tie fighters, various others)

TFA:

Res: t70, b-transport

FO: t/fo, t/fo/SF, shuttle, lander

Scum: quad jumper

When you look at it like that, tfa isn't doing so bad.

Apparently the naboo starfighter is in post 2004 releases of ROTJ?????

All TFA era ships that aren't based on previous ships are all just big boxes. Sometimes with awkward wings or sometimes with some angles, but still boxes.

Has anyone else noticed this?

The one thing the First Order is lacking IMO is its own style. From recycling TIEs, Death Star-esque super weapons, and trooper armor to flying squares and rectangles. Its kind of like they said eh, "just do what you want" to all of their sub contracted suppliers to get them the cheapest version of the latest gear. The only reason the TIEs & Troopers look decent is because some thought and style went into the initial designs. These other new ships they're sporting, not so much....

Definitely sexier than the Rebellion Imp carrier.

The Empire and First Order get their gear from the same designers: Seinar Fleet Systems and Kuat Shiphards. Thus, their ships tend to follow the same aesthetic.

Compare that to the Rebellion, who scrabbled together a fleet of starfighters from whatever resources they could manage, and relied heavily on defectors and sympathetic systems. Their capital ships were merely retrofitted civilian cruise ships. Thus, their fleet ran a much wider range of designs.

I don't know about any of you people, but I am reaching my "too many ships" threshold with this game. Probably the wrong crowd.

Oh man and we haven't even gotten to the Hapan Battle Dragon or the Clawcraft. You'd better bail while you can!

Dragon is too big, if weirdly cool.

Given that it has an external flight deck, I'm willing to bet that that ship is atmospheric only.

I've seen depictions of it (comics and such) but not spotted it in any stills from the movie, of while watching it myself. Have you seen any evidence for it being in the movie?

I was reading through Marvel's Poe Dameron #1 that came out the other day and noticed a NEW First Order craft on the last page. It looks like it can dock a handful of ships, as well as acting as some sort of gunship due to the turrets at each corner. Seems like it could be a pretty fun addition to X-Wing, especially because TFA offered so much less (as far as vehicles go) than the rest of the movies. What do you guys think? image_zps5csl0jhl.jpeg

I like it as an asteroid base thing. i am more excited to see the four cool TIE Coggers. We need that ship in Wave 9!!!

Yes.

The ships flying over Theed palace during the celebration montage are N-1s.

The ship seems to be more of an atmospheric transport than anything else.

Thanks, I'd just read it on the ROTJ Canon page on Wookieepedia

This platform would make a great 2-D flat scenery piece.

kylo ren shuttle

We need a scum epic before the empire.

Fixed it for ya ;)

Yeah it would... fixed to a nice asteroid.

That's an interesting point really. (Ships in brackets still lack miniatures)

TFA:

Slighly modified A New Hope designs:

X-wing, TIE/fo, TIE/sf

New designs:

Brick-lander, Rebel brick-lander, Kylo's shuttle

just as irrevelant as ships in the background in Mos Eisley:

Quadjumper

Nobody thought about Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle? Looks awesome and could be a nice new addition to the First Order

It's also fookheuge and looks like Wario's mustache.

It's indeed mahoosive though that's mostly wing.

Also I stand Corrected.

More like Waluigi.

Well, we're probably getting an updated A-wing since they have stated yesterday that the A-wing will be in VIII, but that is 2 years away. I don't think we'll have any new Resistance or First Order ships until then, FFG will most likely milk Rogue One and Rebels for new ships.

Fair enough didn't even think to look there lol.

The thing about that appearance is that it's easily handwaveable. Perhaps they were ships kept in a museum which have just been liberated by some people who want to show of the iconic ship from the planets history (as you might see a spitfire flying around at a British celebration)... I was sort of hoping there had been one put into the background of a battle shot, as proof the rebels used at least a couple, and justification for them as an XWing ship.

That again highlights my concern for XWing. The lust for new ships could potentially push the game into issues. The TFA stuff came out with very little information and so we essentially didn't get any named pilots, even though we got a number of named red and blue pilots in the film. Meanwhile the Rebels story is continuing, sometimes we get a ship early and it ends up not being representative of its later stats (the phantom gaining and Astromech slot), or we miss out on pilots (the other inquisitors flying the TAP), and potentially could even end up with ships in the wrong factions (the shadow caster, the mandolorian fighters).

In essence FFG is no longer drawing from an expansive universe full of characters and ships, now they are constantly playing catch-up to new stories, but by playing catch up with only a single (maybe two) releases per ship, it's so likely we will miss out on some stuff which may with time become iconic.

Looks like an Atmospheric carrier. Cool but not cool enough for Xwing.
