Support Tab & UFS tourney software

By aslum, in UFS General Discussion

Where is the support tab mentioned in the post about the UFS Tourney Software? I can't find it.

Thanks!

Is our playgroup the only one that hates the new software?

it doesnt seem to pair rounds properly (we were paired 1-0-0 vs 0-1-0 and we had an equal amount of winners and losers) and showing players places at the end of the tourney

Its scary.... we went back to GRT to figure out winners

Please document the challenges like this and send them to Paul <[email protected]>

I wouldn't say that our play group "hates" the new tournament software, but it's certainly no where near finished.

I am going to test the new software on wedsday i just hope its better then GRT.

Link was right, until the problems are fixed, I'm going to be using the GRT sadly.

I didn't get time to figure out all the kinks with the system, but i'll gladly email paul when I get the opportunity to so.
So far

1.Incorrect pairings
2.Incorrect track of points
3.Help "mouseover" does not work."

Keep in mind, I didn't have to look at the software properly, as my fellow scout found the soft ware and we used it right away.

So let me ask this, how do I get the software to run?

I went to the support page, and downloaded the Tourney Magistrate program. What got copied to my computer was a WinRAR Archive. I have never worked with one of these before (I don't do a lot with computers). I have tryed to extract the files to my computer which I have. Now how do I get the software to run so I can even try to run an event with it? So far I have seen no executable file?

Anyone got any suggestions/Advice

Thanks

Craig

I run it through the java run-time enviroment or the SDK (software development kit) version. You can download the run-time enviroment here for example:

http://www.java.com/pt_BR/download/index.jsp

I tryed the new software but i don't get many things:

1 - Where do i register my tournaments like in the old SFG software.

2 - Where do i register my players like in the old SFG software.

3 - What about all the information of the players? What happened to that? No more IDs? I didn't get what we're supposed to the put in the player's information or location. I've read the news information where they speaked about the new software. But i don't get it.

This new software seem not to register on your PC the things you did nor does it synchronize with your account. Correct me if i'm wrong. I didn't use the program that much. Visualy it looked awfull.

Just use note cards and a pen it's way easier. I've never used any tourney software to run an event and I've never had to worry about the program crashing, or the computer messing up, or making a wrong pairing, etc, etc. No one is running 20+ player tourneys every week or anything so you really don't need to use software. And does the new software even report the results for you? I doubt it, so your going to have to do that yourself anyways. By what I've heard about this program and GRT it's been harder and more of a pain to use those then doing it yourself. Don't make things harder then they have to be, use a note card and a pen!

Gotta Agree with JDub pen and papper is still the best. But if you are trying to report your events, you need rating and SOS so having the software to generate those correctly is nice. Speaking of which, thanks Malk that helped the program is running now.

Sorry about the link. I should have putted it in a english link. Didn't see that until now. I downloaded it from there and didn't notice the language as portuguese (my language). You got along just fine with that which is nice. There's probably a link there to switch languages.

Pen and paper all the way. I'll report my tournaments to the best of my ability, but I will not use the tournament software. It just causes problems. As far as Strength of Schedule and Rating... I understand SoS, what am I supposed to put in for rating? 1st, 2nd? I can do that without software, I'll just leave SoS blank, not like it matters after the tournament is over anyway.

You put in the total amount of swiss points in for rating, and the strength of schedule score for SOS.

Make sure to put in the results in the order of the actually finish.

Also let's not forget while you may hate the software, you will still have to sanction AND report the tournaments on the website.

And on that note ... lets remind everyone that today is December 10th, and the cutoff for sanctioning events internationally is coming up in 6 days, and 8 days for the US.

For those of you who have not read the news on the front page - late signups are not permitted by the new system. So on time, or no support.

Aren't we supposed to get the special events for Jan before we sign up unless they are just automatically on the OP site now ?
