SLAM stands for SubLight Acceleration Motor. X-Wings don't have that. Thematically, I really like the idea being centered around closing the S-foils though.

What about something like this?

I like this idea but lets change it a little. I think it makes more sense to be a 1 time use as you never see them swinging open and closed over and over again typically. Usually only used one time in a battle.
