Six new Star Wars movies thru 2020

By thatdave, in X-Wing

The Han Solo and Boba Fett films should actually do pretty well at filling in some holes in the 'Scum' faction, so that'll be nice.

Unfortunately, they are years and years off - so...should FFG go light on the Scum releases until then, expecting that we'll get a flood of new on-screen designs in a few years? Or keep up with their releases vs the other factions, and have this weird surge of Scum designs that has them jump ahead of the other factions?

This is pretty old news. I also don't think it has been officially confirmed that the 3rd one will be a Boba Fett movie.

And they'll all be good, they're not longer in George Lucas' hands.

Rogue One looks awesome.

I'm excited about Rogue One. It looks like the kind of Star Wars I wanted all along. More OG X-Wings, AT-ATs, real Stromtroopers, etc.

I mean, if they could have just given us this in 1999 we could have saved everyone a lot of yellow tadpole spaceships, itchy sand, four-lightsaber cyborgs, and Jamaican Fishbunnies.

Boba Fett isn't officially official.

#OffTopic

Right...I thought it was 5 movies through 2020, including Episode 7. Is it official that they will make the Boba Fett movie now? That would make it 6 movies through 2020.

Rogue one Looks cool, but imo there is such a thing as too much of a good thing

Sadly Disney is going to ruin star wars for me

Especially now they are doing a boba fett movie

He's my favorite character, and I like that from the movies we see and know very little.

I'm already ready to be disappointed

Plus doesn't help I hate Disney with a passion

Disney is going to milk the franchise for every dollar they can, no question.

But they aren't known for putting out bad movies. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I don't see a list. The page just says, "Here are the movies," and then goes straight into a bunch of ads that go all the way to the end of the page.

I'm sick of clickbait websites.

So either tell us what they are or don't share.

Kthnxbai.

I'm not sure what you're seeing, but there is a 19 pic slideshow top center on the page when I click it. Not a lot of info (duh, these are largely preproduction still), but some bits of insight.

They are known for putting out good kids / family movies. You will not get anything gritty.

Here's a link with fewer ads and an actual list:

Short version:

Episode VII

Rogue One (2016)

Episode VIII (2017)

Han Solo (2018)

Episode IX (2019)

Boba Fett (2020)

Thanks!

I thought about doing that, but a) I'm lazy and b) thought someone might like the pics.

Well, seeing as how Star Wars movies have always been family movies, that shouldn't be a problem, then!

I've said this before and I'll stick to my guns.

One of the things that made the OT great was all of the references to the uiiverse that were never on screen. The Battle of Tanaab, the bounty hunter in Ord Mandell, the development of Han and Chewie's relationship, Han and Lando's history, the spice mines on Kessel, why Darth says "No disintegrations" to Boba Fett, etc.

When we are fed a piece of the larger universe we fill those gaps ourselves. We create our own story to explain it and that story is of interest to us - the same reasons why horror films are scarier when we can't see the villian, monster, alien, etc. We are emotionally invested in the universe because a)we subconsciously created a small part of it, b) that part is exactly what we like and find interesting, terrifying, funny, etc. I don't think the Prequel Trilogy gave us the opportunity to emotionally invest in the Eps I, II and III.

Therefore, I personallly hope they do NOT do a Han and/or Boba Fett movie as the characters are much more interesting off-screen. Boba is a chump in the OT. He does absolutely nothing bad ass (he gets defeated by a blind guy with a pointy stick who doesn't even really know he's there) but we know he's a bad ass. Why/How is he a badass .. leave that story to the Audience.

Additionally, the SW universe is very, very large place. Let's open up and explore some more stories and characters instead of focusing on existing ones.

Catching Han Solo when no one else could, talking back to Darth Vader, not being tricked and holding his own in a gunfight with Luke Skywalker on Bespin, temporarily catching Jedi Luke in his rope-gun-thingy.... Boba Fett wasn't a chump, accidents just happen to the best of them.

I do agree that the mystery of the OT was great. That's another thing I like about TFA, we're left wondering quite a bit - much is unanswered.

They already stuck their fingers into some Boba Fett pie with Attack of the Clones and then Clone Wars, so while I will agree that the mystery and blanks of the OT were things I really enjoyed I will not blame Disney for diving deeper into them.

I mean, Lucas already took the coolest bad guy in Star Wars, the most menacing of the menacing and made him a whiny egotist with mommy issues, a hatred of sand, a warped understanding of consent that changes his mind of "the jedi way" to "kill kids" within 5 minutes of a movie.

Disney could not do worse with Han Solo or Boba

There is some speculation about an Obi-wan movie too for when he was a hermit (I believe this source was Ewan Macgregor in an interview when asked if he wanted a part in the DEU)

Hey, they gotta Try Everything.

And yet they seem to be doing well with their Marvel franchise. They aren't exactly broody gothic flicks but there has been a bit of depth and grit added in to bring characters in line with how normal people process extraordinary events. I wouldn't discount the Mouse growing up a bit just yet.

They already got him for a line or two in TFA.

Here's a thought; will Rogue One, Han Solo, and Boba Fett movies open with the text crawl? The big Star Wars fanfare? Or will that be reserved for only the 'main series' movies? Will something else take its place?

Not exactly gritty, but a great blend of humor, action, lore, and some supernatural elements. If that doesn't describe Star Wars, I don't know what does.
