Bombers for scum. How would you like it?

By Rustedborg, in X-Wing

Question for scum players: If you could have it your way would you rather have a dedicated bomber for the scum faction or would you rather have a scum-only generic crew card that adds a bomb slot to any ship with a crew slot?

Personally, I would prefer a generic crew card that adds a bomb slot. That way you could theoretically run three bombs on any YV-666 or add a 4th bomb slot to the Firespray with Andrasta title.

Maybe call it the "Mandalorian Bombardier" ... essentially the same as the new Sabine Wren crew card but without the extra damage bonus. This scum-only generic card will still cost 2 points, you don't get Sabine's attack bonus but you can buy more than one if your ship has more than one crew slot.

I like new ships as much as anyone, but I think the option of customizing existing scum ships as bombers is more appropriate for the scum faction. We're a bunch of outlaws and mercenaries modding our ships for profit and personal glory.

I think that sounds like a decent way to give scum more bomb options. I'm sure the art would be cool too.

As it is, these are the scum ships that can take bombs:

Firespray

Agressor

Y-Wing

With a crew that adds a bomb slot, this list becomes

YV-666

G1A

HWK

Firespray

Agressor

Y-Wing

I think that's it.

Adding those three ships to the list of scum ships that can bomb doesn't seem too particularly outrageous.

I love using bombs in X-Wing, but tend to stick with putting them on Tie Bombers or Firesprays. More options for bombs the better. :)

I like the idea.

Bomb Dropper crew card would be cool but I hope we get a dedicated bomber with Torp/Missile slots too.

Depends on what the Scum bomber looks like.

I'd prefer a more fighter-bomber rather than a dedicated bomber, as having bombers doesn't really seem to "fit" the scum faction. Smaller "militaries" wouldn't have dedicated bomber platforms- too expensive to maintain and very specific role wouldn't make as much sense as a heavier fighter (between the Kihraxz and Mist Hunter I would think) that has a couple of hardpoints for bombs.

The crew option isn't a bad idea though. I don't know if it would have to be Scum-only, it might be fun to have a TIE Phantom with a bomb on it...

A scum crew or illicit slot that gave bombs could also be lower cost with a disadvantage. Maybe -1 agility when a bomb is equipped, or dropping a bomb gives stress to your ship. This plays to the theme of putting a bomb on a craft that normally wouldn't have it.

Make the Cloakshape a fighter-bomber... Not totally consistent with the lore so you'd have to present it as hyper customized

In EAW:FOC the Zann used Skiprays as bombers.

And this is one of the ships I'd wish for Scum next.

The Skipray Blastboat is the one ship I would love to have in X-wing.

Emon Azameen is one of those pilots that I wish we saw more on the table. I think we don't see him because his bombing ability is maybe too obvious, and it can be telegraphed. The best bombs happen when your opponent forgets that you even have them equipped. I'd love to see Scum have more ships with the ability to bomb to give us more options. With Sabine for the rebels, and Deathfire for imperials, it seems to be on Alex and Frank's radar to get more bombs into play. It'd make sense that Scum gets it too.

my standard for "dedicated bomber" is Warden A-SLAM K or Deathrain

any less and it'll just be seismics on w.e bomber we get, which we can already do with Ys quite well

(paraphrasing) "Bombs are only good when my opponent doesn't know they're there" seems like a poor way to justify the goodness of an item that is public information if it's equipped or not.
