Can you use Nashta Pup as a stand in ship token?

By JediPartisan, in X-Wing Rules Questions

First I loved the most wanted pack I gives a lot, but I just noticed a problem when I just tried to build a Z95 swarm (I also have two rebel Z95s).

The Most Wanted pack only comes with three of the cardboard ship tokens.

Now they say that for a tournament you must use the appropriate ship token and card. I have the dials, ships and cards to field four Z95 headhunters, but I only have three of the scum faction ship tokens. Though there are two Binayer Pirate ship tokens and two Black Sun Soldier ship tokens, that come with the Most Wanted pack, you can't have all four in play at one time. One of the ship tokens has the Soldier on one side and the Pirate on the other.

That being said, the Nashtah Pup Pilot token has the same stats, it is Scum and Villainy, but it has an asterisk where the pilot skill is. So could you use a ship number token to identify the ship as a Pirate or a Soldier, but use the Nashtah Pup?

I think I know the answer and I don't like it, but I was hoping to get someone from FF to give an answer.

Since it's obvious that I have the Most Wanted expansion, would this be legal?

You already know the answer and you don't like it. :P

Noooooo!

If it isn't legal, it is such a money grab, especially since there is no Z95 expansion for Scum.

You need to purchase another Most Wanted, which is costly and a second copy would not be as useful to me.

Fantasy Flight! Give your patrons a break!

Please give an update in the FAQ that allows the Nashtah Pup to be used as a stand in for Scum Z95 ship tokens.

Anyone that agrees with this please treat this as a petition and add your comments below.

 Not this nonsense again.

Your cardboard base plates must match the corresponding pilots you are using. FFG will not ever allow argument on this, and rightly so, as it is the easiest way to cause confusion in-game.

Opponents will probably let you do what you like in casual play, especially if it saves some setup time, but if you wish to play at an official event you must either buy another pack or borrow from a friend. That's the end of the discussion.

Oh, it's just a really annoying marketing plan and I'm NOT going to spend more money just for the sake of a few bits of cardboard!

And yet...

You are on FFG's forums... you are within the Schwarzschild radius of that particular black hole.

Basically you want to proxy, and no game out there lets you do that at official events.

You've discovered a big reason why it barely matters that FFG counts model and dial as part of the "ship" that can be used by any faction; you still need the rest of the cardboard to run it. Indirectly you've also discovered a reason I think it's stupid to include a ship dial in a package without the model when you need the dial and model to run the ship; it would have been so much nicer (although perhaps not as profitable) had that dial space been used for base tiles allowing you to get more use from the ships & dials you already have.

OK, so you have heard this before, but the only difference is the Nashtah Pup has an asterisk in place of the pilot skill. This is the only token to have that difference. Also since the Scum Faction was added later and we're all playing catch up anyway (including Fantasy Flight who came out with twice the number of Scum ships this year just to make them closer to the other two in terms of ships) it just would be nice to have a little break when it comes to purchasing.

I have one of each of the ships and have even purchased a few duplicates and I know that there are others with WAY more than that, so a little consideration from a business to their patrons is not uncalled for.

It's a way of saying, we know you have spent a lot and we're glad you're enjoying yourselves, and we enjoy making them.

Not, thanks for your patronage, but our stock holders are not happy with 100% profit, so we need to find other ways to make you buy more.

Just saying.

so a little consideration from a business to their patrons is not uncalled for.

You could most likely get away wit it in any event other than a Regionals or higher.

You want to run X# of Z-95's then you need to buy enough Z-95's to do so. As it is, FFG is letting people use more Z-95s of a given faction then they actually paid for.

Bottom line, your question was answered, if you don't like the answer there's nothing we can do for you.

But this is not the place to discuss FFG's policies, if you want to do that then go to the general forum.

Get a stanley blade ( carpet cutter) and slice the pirate/soldier base in half, then glue it to a spare stand, simples.
