Replacing Whisper with the Inquisitor in my mini swarm list.

By XMasamuneRebornX, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've recently had relative success with the following list:

"Whisper" (32)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Fire-Control System (2)

Tactician (2)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

"Howlrunner" (18)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Epsilon Squadron Pilot (15)

Academy Pilot (12)

Academy Pilot (12)

The biggest problem I've had is that Whisper tends to separate easily from the swarm, as a result of decloaking, becoming an isolated target. The inquisitor seems to be quite a promising replacement.

Any suggestions for inquisitor builds that may fit into this strategy?

There is this straightforward approach to a swarm + an Inquisitor...
The Inquisitor
Predator
Autothrusters
TIE/v1
Ship Total: 31
"Howlrunner"
Swarm Tactics
Ship Total: 20
Academy Pilot
Ship Total: 12

Academy Pilot
Ship Total: 12
Academy Pilot
Ship Total: 12

Academy Pilot
Ship Total: 12

Total Points: 99

Predator and TIE/v1 seem redundant together; you'll rarely use Predator when you're getting locks in order to trigger /v1.

Push the Limit fits The Inquisitor way better.

Can't disagree with that. PTL is just awesome.

Inquisitor is insanely good with PTL, i used him this weekend in my Palp aces list replacing Soontir and i don't think i will go back to Soontir, i found the Inquisitor usually had as much defence but had TL for Attack, in past games i would lose Vader or Soontir, this past weekend in 4 games all i gave up was half the cost of the shuttle.

There's nothing wrong with Whisper getting separated from the swarm. In fact, that's a good thing! If you are finding the opponent is guessing where Whisper is decloaking and then converging on her and killing her, then you are either leaving yourself with limited decloak options too often (and your opponent is guessing correctly), or you are doing something else that is relatively easy to predict. Positioning is everything in this game. Finding ways to position yourself in ways that your opponent can't predict will greatly improve Whisper's usefulness (at least all the time).

And the Inquisitor will want to do the same. If you have a push the limit equipped ship flying in a formation with your other ships, you are asking for trouble----it will get boxed in and with its dial 'constrained' (because some of its maneuvers are not possible due to the placement of your other ships) its easy for the opponent to predict, block and kill your ace.

Lastly, I don't think tactician is the best crew choice for Whisper. Its not bad, but there are better. If you have them, try experimenting with the following: Agent Kallus, Rebel Captive or Gunner. Good luck!
