32 player tourney at our FLGS. 4 rounds then cut to top 4, after they had a lot more interest than they expected.
After round 3, the top 4 all took IDs, depriving 2-4 other players of a crack at the cut.
As one of the players who played this rule, and took an ID, it felt a totally unnecessary and stupid way to proceed. Could I have refused the draw? Obviously. But it's in the rules. It's part of the game (now). I can choose to give someone else the chance of a crack at my shiny, but that's my choice. But, within the rules of the game, I chose not to. Perhaps I'm a hypocrite. But I'd much rather that the rules reflected the way in which the game ought to be played, and didn't offer me the chance to be a hypocrite playing by a bad rule.
It remains a stupid, unnecessary rule, solving a problem that did not exist until the latest revision of the tourney rules. Please, please, please fix this tomorrow morning, OP team. It's an amazing game - let's keep it awesome.
