So Im back....

By NintendoMan, in UFS General Discussion

So Im back from my lil break cuz I had alot of work, school stuff and baseball and I come back to find a new forum!

So has anything changed? I heard the next set release got pushed back to almost Christmas and honestly Ima lil dissapointed....

I also see alot of threads griping about the current playerbase, and although i noticed my playgroup dwinding and apparently CHubbs and Shaneth calling it quites, there are still very dedicated people.

Armed Pirate hit me up I wanna joing your guy's leage if its still on wednesday nights and get back into the fun game I love.

BTW these forums are freaking slow!!

Set 11 was pushed back basically so that James could fix it, rather than having one more set under Dave Freeman's idea of proper power levels :P And apparently there is a new server coming Monday. That aside, welcome back ^_^

Frmo what I can tell, release 9 was actually the last set to be designed with any sort of support from STG old paradigm measures with both Dave and Jonathan ledezma involved, amongst others like possible Erik and such.

Release 10 AFAIk was a DAVE solo project. Which actually turned out quite well. So don't bash dave design standards immediately, kay? Just cause someone is a designer at a certain time doesn't mean it was their fault some things sucked in it.

Also just cause a player is NOT a part of hte old regime does that mean his designs will be that much better. hata is a good guy and all, and a solid player. I just hope his experience in UFS (and ONLY UFS as far as TCGs go) turns out for the best. But the best sets to probably gauge that would be the base set, in March, which will probably have some paradigm changing concepts for Block 3 push, which means the best set then for that would probably be release 13... heh.

Not bashing his design , just his (and any team that worked with him I guess) gauge in terms of power level - even if they don't turn out to be so meta-warping as to be ban or errata-worthy, I don't think there's much argument that cards like Defender, Battle Prowess and The Ways of Punishment (and numerous cases from sets before 10) should never have been printed or even sent out of intial design as they currently are. Having a lot of useless cards in a set isn't necessarily good, but it doesn't hurt anywhere near as much and it's generally expected that there are going to be at least some as that's just how ccgs go.

The reason I and most people expect Hata to be a vast improvement is because given his prowess in the competetive game, he is more aware than probably anybody in the game as to what's too powerful to print and what's just going to collect dust. So we shouldn't get any more Rejections or Blood Runs Trues. Maybe some Quick to Angers at worst. And although we can't always expect promises of every card in a set being playable, there should be less utterly useless cards than there have been recently as well.

I agree that in pure design terms, so far as the themes and such, Dave was pretty good (save for his obsession with momentum hate) - Most of the set 10 themes were interesting in theory, even if they weren't necessarily executed as well power-wise as they could have been. And of course, James is still an unknown factor on that front. But I do know there is tons of design space out there, and even if he has a hard time finding some it wouldn't really be that bad for a little while to revisit some already-done themes and do them properly on the power-level front. (seems like the likely route for set 12, based on the claim of going back to the roots)

GRANT MY MAN FROM THE WEST SIDE !!

Anyways great to hear your back man I cant wait for Nats or worlds it is always a blast hanging out with you .

Screw that noise. If it sucks, it sucks. If he's the one responsible, then he's the one who should be held responsible. No ifs and buts about it.

Um...Hatman...Shaddup! (Now you can add two to your tally in your sig.)

Anyways, an idea can be good, once executed, the question remains if the idea that was good could stand on its own when it becomes reality. Just look at my Gouken thread on an idea that I thought was cool.

Back on topic, welcome back Nintendoman. Yes, this forum is slow, but heres hoping that our forum will pick up speed in the next couple of days.

hopefully we will be full speed in a couple days. and edwin uh... hatman is right. flash of blades (minus defender) wasn't that bad, but king of fighters 2006 was controll at it's worst.

I agree set 10 wasnt the best of sets but it still wasnt broken if we look at some other sets that could be worse but set 11 Steve said will balance things out .

Welcome back! Is Lance, Ty or Doug still playing the game?

i always prefer to have a bad set than an out of controll set. set 10 was more of a bad set.

The more I play with set 10, the more I like set 10.

Throughout both the SC and the SNK set there are a pile of great cards. I know for our Water tournament, Set 10 cards featured prominently in a number of decks.

For a bad set, it's sure got a bunch of cards that are playable.

I think it was more of the card out right sucked or the card was too ridiculous in a lot of cases I mean we did have 2 Erratas after it just came out .

i didn't say set 10 was a bad set, i just don't think it was broken like set 9(realm of midnight).
