=THE GALACTIC CIVIL WAR= Massive Armada Tournament

By MattShadowlord, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm still confused why I get the "imperial based secured"...

There are exactly enough sectors on the map for the tournament when the two bases are included, so the first 5-5 wins secure them instead of taking new territories. The Rebels have yet to secure their own.

quick someone sneak in the back door and change the pass codes..... :D

doobleg vs Green Squadron 3: round 2 begins NOW!!! :D

Because that's "the other thing" that you do besides find droids. BUWAHAHAHA

^Viperous: Nice report, wish I had hung out to watch.

Aaand we're on pause again between doobleg and Green Squadron 3.

Things are looking grim for the Rebels as they have lost a frigate and are almost certainly about to lose Yavaris. But the plucky Neb ain't goin' down without a fight. ;)

It's final; DabDarklighter defeated me in a marathon 4 hour match-up. He won 7-3 (251-135 MoV 116). Obj: Dangerous Territory (5-1 tokens to Dab).

Match began then took an immediate hour hiatus due to a family accident in the home (involving falling plates and cut feet). After bandaging a family member I then proceeded to make some less than stellar decisions. I claimed initiative and first player but Dab's five activations allowed him to deny my advantage from that. In addition, Dab used the slippery nature of corvettes and Nebs (w/ their speed 3 double notches) to avoid the black dice of my glads and denying me the ability to focus fire with multiple ships. Ultimately, I made 2 big mistakes which cost me an opportunity to gain more and ensured a further loss of MoV points and therefore the game.

Dab's activation advantage allowed him extra ships to maneuver around the game board to collect ultimately 5 of the 6 objective tokens for Dangerous Territory, with the imperials claiming only 1.

My biggest mistake came early on. Given the choice between attempting to save one of my gladiators and killing a corvette with my ISD, I chose to attempt to save the gladiator with spectacularly poor results. The corvette escaped into the corner whilst my Glad1 failed to pop APT versus Foresight (due to M.Mothma & double re-rolls!) before a double ram then promptly took an avalanche of damage, 10 in all. Had I chose to nuke the 'vette instead the MoV would have dropped to 69 and resulted in a 6-4. So, not a good decision.

Later I mis-maneuvered my ISD into my 2nd glad trying to ram his Neb. Eventually I did bring down salvation with the front arc of my ISDII on turn 6 after it lit up the 2nd Glad in a hail of front arc firepower. However, had I activated my Glad first on turn 5 (it died with an engineering command queued up) it might have survived. But that may have also allowed the Salvation to survive.

On the squadron front, the 3 Aggressors (Prince, Purple Rain, & The Revolution) and Jumpmaster (Jumpmaster 1999) acquitted themselves well by destroying the 3 YT-2400s arrayed against them while only losing Purple Rain. They also fired well versus ships, doing most of the damage to one of his corvette, though lacked the pursuit speed to maintain range on target. They came 1 missed black die roll away from destroying that damaged, fleeing CR90.

In the end Dab controlled the tempo of the game and his veteran's cool was too much for my rookie nerves. He fought SMART and, well, I did not.

Finally, my Jumpmaster should have been named "Jump Like It's 1999"! I will make that important correction prior to my next match.

Thank you, DabDarklighter, for the entertaining match and conversation.

Two more match-ups today as Round One of the Galactic Civil War is nearly completed:

ianediger vs Green Knight (Tuesday the 26th 1600 GMT/12 Noon EDT)
Miferr vs JJsJuggernaut (Tuesday the 26th 2400 GMT/8PM EDT)

ianediger and Miferr will attempt to bring order to the Galaxy and stop this destructive conflict.

After today only these remain:

Doobleg/Green Squadron 3 continuation

TGall/Nebulon B Continuation

Matt Shadowlord/Miedomeda highly anticipated but yet to be scheduled engagement...

Green Knight bests ianediger 7-3 (103 MOV)

Objective was Contested Outpost. Ianediger got all the victroy tokens and a CR-90. Green Knight downed Tarkin's ISD and a VSD.

After a hard fought battle, Green Knight wins, 7-3, 103 MOV. He chose first player and we played my Contested Outpost. I placed the station on the center of my side of the map, and place one VSD behind it at speed 1, a VSD on the far left of the board, also at speed 1, and placed my ISD facing in on the far right at speed 3. He deployed Paragon, Admonition, and JL on the far right, and placed his other two CR90s on the left. Turn one saw little happen, except me turning my ISD outwards, taking GK by surprise. Turn 2 saw the VSD's have hot die rolls against the CR90's, severely wounding both, and the VSD's also managed to keep them in arc. Turn 3 saw GK lose his vanilla CR90, with the other limping off. It also saw my ISD, now at speed 1, barely clip a debris field, and drop it's last remaining shield. This quickly led to GK taking out the ISD, and began my lukewarm streak on the dice that would last the rest of the game. Turn 5, one of my VSD's died, and turn 6, nothing died. I took all 6 station tokens, helping to even out the huge losses I had taken.

In hindsight, I probably should have sent the ISD straight on turn 3 instead of turning, but oh well. GK was an amazing opponent, and I wish him the best of luck in the remainder of the tourney.

Edit: After one Interceptor shot at Tycho, and a failed counter by Tycho, the squads just flew around each other waving.

In hindsight I might have picked Dangerous Territory, but I prefer the more predictable set-up that the Outpost forces. That's to my advantage given how few deployments I have.

Your real genius was turning the ISD outwards. That really upset my follow-up move on the station! Plus my flank was supposed to both keep your other VSD away and soften it for a late game kill. But that Tac Expert/Slaved Turrets set-up and not dice killed that part of the plan before it could hatch.

Well played I say.

NOoooo! The Rebels have secured their base!

Miferr vs JJsJuggernaut (Tuesday the 26th 2400 GMT)

Starting NOW

Matt Shadowlord vs Miedomeda (Wednesday 0500 GMT)

JJs Juggernaut (2nd Player) vs Miferr (1st Player)

7-3 win for JJs Juggernaut.

MoV 121 (269-148)

Objective: Contested Outpost

A very good game vs Miferr. I managed to threaten multiple ships each turn, thus taking away a lot of Miferr's advantage as first player. It definitely made it much harder for me though and Miferr flew very well. Thanks for the game!

Admirals of the Empire hear me!

This is a day that we will remember. A day when these "rebel" scum gained on our previous war advance.

Remember this day and let it be a warning to you.

Order! Strength!

This war WILL be ours!

Can't believe how close this first round has been. Looks to me like a single victory is all that will separate Rebel and Empire. :D

Then you'll be pleased with how my game with Miedomeda is going :D

The story so far: Hyperspace Assault!

The Nebulon came in hot on the heels of the Demolisher, forcing it to activate 1st or risk Bwing and Havoc assault. She did, and despite the steep angle my flagship had chosen, managed to do a 3+1 move that got a couple pixels in front arc, and the next thing you know inflicted a 9 damage hit, forcing the brace to be discarded to intel and shields to just be stripped away. Retalliation was dreadful, with Yavaris and bwings not even taking a shield off their secondary target (a raider) and the frigate and squadrons doing a mere 2 shields to the Demolisher. Miedomeda joked his ships were dodging shots like it was the Matrix. Oh how we laughed.

Oh.

How.

We.

Laughed.

;) We had to pause at the end of turn two, but the Demolisher is poised to instantly delete the rebel flagship in the casual way it enjoys so much, and it's going to be a heck of a fight back from there. I'll try grab some points on the way out - in fact its currently 0-16 in my favour so I guess we could call it here. :D

Thx for the game, which saw some mistakes from both sides, bad ship rolls from the Empire, the worth of Lando and Admonition and an unnecessary encounter of the flagship with the unforgiving edge of space.
