=THE GALACTIC CIVIL WAR= Massive Armada Tournament

By MattShadowlord, in Star Wars: Armada

Oh these are difficult times for the Empire. The New Order has fallen, and the Rebel scum have taken four battles in a row.

And now there is a JJ on the horizon...

Current Score (16-20)

FINAL ROUND (2-4)

But fear not! Better times are coming.

I have foreseen it!

Nice to see my advice to Matt was well heeded.

"Dont bother shooting the rapidly healing ISD...."

No kidding; in just turn 2 and 3 the ISD fixed/moved 13 shields --without even having an Engineering command!

It was heeded, but I interpreted it as meaning 'Don't bother shooting the rapidly healing ISD unless you can hit it with the largest damage spike since Tarkin's last visit to Alderaan.' :D

It is my fault. Seems instead of using this as a method to learn how to play against clon, that I may end up against clon first. . . joy. . .

Where I come from, that's a Trial-by-Seat-of-the-Pants-On-FIRE.

I still feel I am getting the worst game I possibly could. . . this will be a horrible experience. . . Anyone got any videos on clonisher games? Biggs?

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSJ-LkwpPPTBXJPxuRDdDww

Come on down to ye olde Biggs' Historical Match Emporium. We're home to all your clonisher needs.

Not much. . . He seems to play like I do with DtO. Limit engagements when possible and take advantage of ones speed and consistent firepower.

GS3, in case you see this, I'm in Vassal and have both our fleets set up. Let me know if you need to postpone!

OK, I think 1:15 is long enough to wait. :) I'm shutting down Vassal...at least I have the fleets saved!

When is the deadline to play again?

The final round ends at midnight Pacific time, Saturday the 4th of June. Please have all results in by this date.

So... My computer updated to Windows 10, and decided that the touch screen, which I had disabled because it was cracked, despirately needed to be reactivated by default.

I now cannot even log into the thing, as it thinks I am hammering about 15 times a second across the middle top part of the screen.

And I cant disable it without logging in.

Yay.

I mean...err... Uhh... That's Terrible I hope you can fix it :P

That was a really fun game against Matt last night and my first hyperspace assault game as well... I picked the objective thinking he would put yvaris in hyperspace and at some point try to jump in behind one of my ships likely the ISD... how I had been flying them in past games behind the ISD, I thought I could adequately cover Tarkin's rear and deny him that opportunity... and for the most part I think it worked... what I didn't anticipate was him dropping yvaris right in front of the ISD... I think if I had I would have been more mindful off the token in front of Tarkin... I also should have stuck with the game plan of eng, eng, eng for Tarkin.... I'm not saying he would have survived, but maybe... activating last and first would have given him 4 hull, and then receiving 6 more shields over the course of the next turn might have spared him had Matt's rolls been poopy... one thing is for sure though it's that Matt is a master tactician! I had no illusions going in of beating him... I'm looking forward to more games with him and learning a lot more about this game.... I'd also like to see the list modified and flown by a more experienced commander.. I think it has potential, certainly against long range pecking, be it red dice or squadron, the damage simply doesn't stick, and nothing short of a massive and sudden burst of damage is enough to give Tarkin pause... cheers

Thanks, and great game SkyCake.
Your list is unusual, and I think I am going to have to try it out myself. A rapidly recharging Imperial Star Destroyer provides a very different challenge that few players will be used to dealing with.

It's a new approach to Hyperspace assault I developed over the last two weeks. It does put Yavaris in harms way, but also puts a huge amount of damage into one very small area of the map, and lets the newly arriving squadrons benefit both from Yavaris and from Torryn Farr at the same time.

Nym loves it. :D

WhatsArmadaWithYou vs JJ's Juggernaut

Ozzel 384 ----vs---- Dodonna 383

Objective: Most Wanted

Final: Imperial Victory 140 - 136, MoV 4 Points (5 - 5)

Summary:

The loss of Dash and a YT and some unlucky rolling versus my Aggressors and Jumpmaster resulted in a narrow Imperial Victory. In spite of losing my own objective ship (d'oh!) I was able to knock out the JJ's MC30 Admonition title and 2 squadrons. A hot roll from the front arc of my ISD (8 dmg/1Acc) versus Admonition resulted in 2 hull damage, followed by an ISD ram for 1 more, and then a screaming engine-teched glad ram (landing in the path of my own ISD) from the side allowed me to remove Admonition from the board before it could unload on my ISD. That cleared my ISD to escape the snare JJ had cleverly designed for me. Even though I lost the Obj ship, the glads still served their purpose of screening the high point, commander-carrying ISDII. And while Ozzel can feel like a commander with less to offer, it is difficult to underestimate the ability to jump up and down quickly in speeds. So much of this game depends on getting to that right spot at that right time. Or in this case, in escaping from it. Great game, JJ! You had me worried about our match for days.

Thanks to all for the great tournament! I can easily say that I learned more participating in this tournament than all of my league and tournament play up to this point. This tournament challenged how I understood fleet building, initiative, activation management, deployment, objective selection and usage, and strategic understanding, and all of this rolled into how you play as first versus second player. There is such a high caliber of player involved here that you are forced to learn and adapt or be crushed. But I welcomed being crushed by my early opponents and for JJ's smart and considered play. Thank you!!

Finally, some screen grabs of the match. Turn 3 (1) then Turn 4 before Glad ram (2) and after Glad Ram (3):

A crushing blow to the rebellion as we begin our inevitable comeback.

You know what Obi-wan really meant:

"Mos Eisley Spaceport (Vassal Armada Online). You will never find a more wretched(awesome) hive of scum (rebels) and villainy (imps). We must be cautious (adapt or be crushed)."

I'm going to stand in for Ianediger (or at least that's what I've been ordered). I'm looking for a Rebel commander named Hartley276. If you've seen him, tell him to holonet me.

ianediger and Hartley are going to try and give it a go on June 3rd (after 9pm Central). WGNF911 is on standby if it doesn't work out.

When is the deadline to play again?

According to the forum clock you posted this at 11:15pm GMT and not 1:15

Green squad says he logged in at 11:20pm GMT

May need a TO ruling on this one.

GreenSquad hasnt read our team messages yet for this round. Iandiger is unable to play his match. Would there be any objections if myself and CNinja play these matches as team captains?

ps Myself and Vip are likely to play saturday evening BST 28th

It looks like Green Squadron 3 and I may play after all. We are both available to play Wednesday at 5pm Central, 10pm GMT.

I meant I waited for 1:15 minutes, which would be 11:15 GMT. If GS3 logged in 5 minutes later and was ready to play, that is a shame, as I totally would have played. :( (Ready to play at 12:15 am his local time? Wow!)

Still, we're going to try to hook up again before the deadline. Hopefully it works out!

I'm not sure what the question is, but regardless they have time to reschedule.

Green Knight defeats JrockNZ 8-2 Mov 132

I was 1st player and picked his Contested Outpost.

I think we both played pretty well, but there were some mistakes on both sides. He deployed his Raider too far out, for example. I effectively maneuvered my kitted MC30 out of the battle after a meh torpedo run. But other than that we were good: he kept a tight formation, until I forced his ISD off the station with a zillion TRC/Paragon double arcs. I had some bad dice, but also some good. He got lucky with a Glad surviving a MASS of fired, I got lucky with an CR90 escaping with 1 hull.

All inn all a very enjoyable game, that was exiting up until the end.

Oh, and if there is an Admiral Congeniality title, Jrock certainly deserves it, for unfailing politeness and for pointing out stuff when I forgot (I was happy to return the favor).
