=THE GALACTIC CIVIL WAR= Massive Armada Tournament

By MattShadowlord, in Star Wars: Armada

GO GET 'IM, CAPTAIN!!! :D

After a closely fought battle which saw all of both side's fighters wiped out and H-6s and TIE bombers being used for CSP, Vader kills the leader of the band of rebels, Garm. The Rebel A-Wings got the drop on the TIE Interceptors and rolled amazingly well. The Interceptors, well, they had up to 6 dice, and still managed to suck, and when they did get the first shot, at least twice, they got hit with 2 damage in return. Garm got a little too close to Vader's ship, and he didn't last too long against that Imperial Star Destroyer. The VSD and ISD got tangled up, partially planned, partially not (the last turn.) After final A-Wing was scoured from the universe by a selfless sacrifice by Admiral Chiraneau, which also took out a bomber. After that, some fancy flying on the ISD's part to stay out of range, and a corvette that was so lucky a crit wasn't rolled when 4 TIE bombers were shooting the tail pipes, and it sped away clinging to the tattered remains of it's engines. The 3 bombers that couldn't reach it shifted to the AFM2 on turn 6 for a few tokens.

Objective: Superior positions, First player Maturin (subbing for Madaghmire)

Losses/tokens:

94 VSD
18 TIE Bombers (2)
55 TIE Interceptors (5)
16 Howl
16 Rhymer
120 tokens (8)
94+18+55+16+16+120=319
vs
121 Garm's AFM2
66 A-Wings (6)
16 H-6 Bomber
165 tokens (11)
121+66+16+165=368

6-4 MoV 49

Thanks to Maturin for playing on short notice. He did remarkably well and really upset my plans early on. The mutual fighter slaughter was crazy, with only 6 combined squads surviving out of 22.

  • JABIIM LOYAL AT ALL COSTS Captain ICT vs Bounty Hunter "Maturin" (for Madaghmire) 6-4

Thanks to Captain ICT for a really good game. He would have had the game solidly had his dice not failed him so badly. By all rights TIE/In + Flight Controllers + Howlrunner should have cleaned up the A-wings since his fighters were rolling 6 dice (!). The bombers took Garms ship out by turn 3, but in doing so left them out in deep space on the left side of the playing field. My four H-6's were relatively free for a turn or two to rack up some tokens and help take down the VSD.

In the end though some really nice flying by the good Captain saw his squadrons revert to their bomber role for a crucial three tokens. A nail biter of a game - thanks to a most awesome opponent!

Yeah I'm pretty sure The New Order has the "Defenders of the Empire" title wrapped up. The Imperial Entanglements and the Ruthless Strategists MUST rule Round 3 to cleanse the galaxy of these rebels!

218 Beta 2 is out:

http://www.vassalengine.org/mediawiki/images/f/fa/ArmadaModule_-_2.1.8b2.vmod

Mostly under-the-hood changes, but the following is visible to players:

The dice roller now reports your results when rolling/adding dice:

Example: if I just rolled 4 reds it might say "Green Knight" rolled 4 red dice and got: HIT/HIT ACC CRIT BLANK"

Example: if I just added 1 black it might say "Green Knight added 1 black dice and got a HIT/CRIT"

This nicely complements (it's by no means a critical feature, but a nice one) the existing "Green Knight set Red dice 1 to HIT/HIT" feature.

The module also plays a little sound when you roll/reroll/add a dice (but not when you change to a specific face).

Each of the 3 colors has its own sound:

Red: Heavy turbolaser fire (DS trench)

Blue: Rapid laser cannon fire (Xwing)

Black: Proton torpedo launch (vs. the DS exhaust port)

Thanks to MattShadowlord for making those.

Note that the sounds are up for evaluation. They ARE kind of cool, and also acts as a signal to your opponent, but they are also kind of annoying. Feedback appreciated.

Viperous (Imperial Entanglements) 4-6 (125-162 MOV) MattShadowlord (Hoth Command)

Very good game with Matt, and having played him at least 15 times before on vassal I knew him to be a tough opponent, so I didn't go into the game with much confidence of a victory.

I chose to go first and picked Hyp Assault as the objective. I deployed Kallus on the Impetuous at a slower speed to cover my back from Yavaris and co.

First two rounds (which were played on thursday) resulted in nothing save a few squad overlaps and a lost shield on each raider. We resumed today with Matt's AFS racing away at speed 3, keeping 1 step ahead of the Motti ISD which was kicking its engine team hard in response. Matt threw in his squads against a Raider and so I chucked in all mine. The end of the 3rd round saw Impetuous speed up and hurl itself into the squadron fray (kallus was eager for action). Matt then hyped in and almost (almost) fell for my trap between Impetuous and the ISD but in the end he resolved for the safer (If less exciting) option a short distance away. Impetuous then activated and chewed through all the squads within reach (even Bossk and a YV didn't escape damage - RS). I was then forced toswing away at speed 4 and I got extremely unlucky with a move (I'll show you if I can get the screenshot on - any ideas on how to post it??) that gave two of Matt's ships double arcs against Kallus' rear - by millimetres!

Obviously it kinda expired quite rapidly followed by the bomber-damaged Raider. I then managed to swing the ISD round and got two decent shots on the Neb.

The final round I just managed to kill the neb with a rear-CF shot from my last Raider.

Very good game, very enjoyable, I was marginally unlucky at points, but Matt has a ton of skill and it's great to learn new tips from him!

Good luck to y'all in round 3!

Miedomeda vs Green Squadron 3 is over with a result of 8- 2 in my favor and a 174 points MOV.

After lagging a bit to setup the game and play the first round on monday (i think?), we finished today. We played contested outpost and I was first player. Fun fact: GS3 list is very similar to the one Matt flew on the first tournament game, so i roughly knew what to expect. As always I was outdeployed and had to position my last ship before GS3 flagship, but still the objective gave me an idea about where and when he planned to be. My ships were deployed in a staggered broad formation, with the obvious intent of giving GS3 only one last/ first activation on any turn, while his formation was his 3 ships directly facing the outpost and his squadron cloud in front of them.

Long story short, my plan sort of worked as intended and I was able to destroy his non-flagship guppie with a ram in the beginning of my third turn, despite some non spectacular rolls. His flagship activated then, and having no other options flew into the waiting guns of my ISD, which welcomed her warmly. My demo was then destroyed by a yavaris activation, and i ended up finishing the flagship on the fourth round, choosing that to kill that over yavaris, who was threatened by a raider but managed to get away with some nice maneuvering from LTD, who subbed from round 4 for GS3 who had to leave in a hurry. Whoa, lots of who.

Anyway, in hindsight I should probably have tried to kill the yavaris with my apt double arced raider instead of the guppie, as the flagship didn't really have anywhere to go. That could potentially win me a 10 - 0, but still a nice victory as it is.

GS3 was a very kind and "fly casual" type of player and I enjoyed our game a lot despite having to pause after first round and him fleeing at the end of 3rd round. A special thank to LTD as well, who subbed in at the beginning of 4th round and did a great job escaping alive with the Yavaris.

So round two is complete! The rebel scum currently hold a two game advantage over the Empire.

That round was incredibly close on Tournament points! 74-76 with a 216 overall MOV to the Rebellion.

Overall its 143-157 with a 813 MOV to the Rebellion.

=GALACTIC CIVIL WAR==
=====FINAL ROUND=====

The fate of the Galaxy now rests on a knife's edge, as the gap between the territories held by Imperials and Rebels is a mere 2 sectors.

The final round of this conflict puts 17 sectors up for grabs, as each team hires two bounty hunter fleets to bolster their grand Armadas. The result of this is that the Rebellion's current small lead could be even less significant than it may appear, and there remains everything to play for.

Many Bothans died to bring you the galaxy's worst kept secret; the glaringly obvious match ups for round 3.
